CLOSE to one million people have attended over 8,000 performances in glór, which this weekend celebrates its 21st birthday. On Saturday, the Ennis cultural venue celebrates 21 years in business and in that time has welcomed 950,000 people to over 8,200 ticketed performances and events. To celebrate reaching its milestone birthday, glór is collaborating with broadcaster and producer Áine Hensey to present a 21st birthday concert this weekend. This Saturday, a generation of younger Clare musicians and performers will take to the glór stage this Saturday to echo the opening night performance and to celebrate in true Clare style. The anniversary concert will once again raise the roof and feature a host of special guests from Clare and beyond, celebrating our creative community through music, dance, and word. ON Sunday, December 5 at 7pm there will be an evening of candlelit song at Ennis Cathedral. The event will include a selection of Advent hymns, poetry and music performed by familiar faces and voices. The candlelight evening will see Ennis Cathedral Musicians and singers tell the story of Advent through music and song. Entry is free but donations if desired to the Cathedral Renovation appeal.

A FESTIVE concert with a jam-packed line up of talent from Clare and beyond will raise funds to support the vulnerable this Christmas. For the past few years campaigner Josie O’Brien has organised a concert in glór to raise awareness of homelessness while also raising funds to purchase food hampers for those in need. Last year’s event was cancelled due to Covid-19, however the ‘Christmas Choir’ concert will return on December 18 of this year. Luka Bloom will feature as special guest alongside plenty more acclaimed talent, including Mike Hanrahan; The Fiddle Case; Eoin O’Neill and Clara Buteler; Sarah Ryan; Anne Rynne; Trevor Hansbury; John Fennell (Sean Nós); Sara Ryan (Sean Nós); Steo Wall: Fay Moloney and the Cork Penny Dinners High Hopes Choir with more guests to be announced. THE tragic loss of a number of people in the Cloughleigh area of Ennis this year has been the inspiration for the holding of a special concert of remembrance next month. Acclaimed singer / songwriter Kieran Goss will be the headline act for the concert in Cloughleigh Community Centre on December 6 which will also feature his wife Annie Kinsella, Damien Gormley, Siobhan Peoples and band The Citizens. The event, billed as a Concert of Remembrance and Hope has been organised by Fr Ger Fitzgerald along with a group of locals who knew many of those who have passed away. Proceeds from the event will be used to create a memorial to be erected outside Cloughleigh church. Music lovers are in for a rare treat this Friday night in Ennis with a concert featuring the award-winning Seoda Chamber Choir and renowned singer-songwriter Lucinda Drayton. The fundraising concert in the Templegate Hotel is in aid of the local Bushypark Treatment Centre which does tremendous work to support individuals and their families struggling with alcohol, drug and gambling addictions. The Seoda Chamber Choir from Limerick is a talented group of female friends who share a love of choral music and fun. Together they have created a magnificent sound under the very talented director, Máire Keary Scanlon. Now in their eleventh year together, Seoda has travelled extensively both at home and abroad and has achieved many accolades and tremendous success in competitions and performances alike. Kilkishen Cultural Centre is delighted to launch into 2015 with a performance by Frankie Gavin and De Dannan on Saturday January 3 at 8.30pm. For many years traditional super group De Dannan were the forerunners in the Irish traditional music world but after 33 years, 14 albums and a number of changes in the line up, the group disbanded in 2003. A new De Dannan was formed by original founding member and world famous fiddle player Frankie Gavin which in his own words “will reflect a De Dannan of the 21st century”. CLARE Music Maker’s will host their 15th non-competitive festival in the Temple Gate Hotel this weekend. This event gives all Clare Music Maker’s students an opportunity to perform for families, friends and an adjudicator. Each student receives a certificate from the adjudicator. The festival, on Sunday, welcomes violinist Áine Kelly as adjudicator this year. Over her 20 years as a teacher and performer Áine has created, developed and directed two children’s orchestras, one of which received a national award during the children’s Orchestra Music Festival held annually in the National Concert Hall, Dublin. Áine is now based in Galway and performs on a regular basis with her String Quartet “Strings Serenade” and she also works as a deputy player with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Con Tempo, the Galway Music in Residency String Quartet.
