As the race for All Ireland tickets reaches fever pitch, Cumann na mBunscol an Chláir are holding a draw for two coveted All-Ireland final stand tickets next week. The organisation, which supports thousands of Clare youngsters to enjoy Gaelic games every year, will host a draw next Wednesday evening, at 8pm, with two tickets up for grabs. Tickets for the draw can be purchased online from the idonate website with one ticket available for €10 and 3 tickets available for €20. “This draw is a vital fundraiser for us, as it helps to offset the significant costs associated with running Gaelic games for schools throughout the year,” said a spokesperson. “The funds raised will go directly towards the development and sustainability of our programmes, ensuring that young athletes across Clare have the opportunity to participate in and benefit from Gaelic sports.” Cumann na mBunscol an Chláir organise Gaelic Games and Cross Country Running competitions for all Primary Schools in County …

TERRACE tickets for Sunday week’s Munster final went on sale this morning and sold out in less than half an hour. The rematch of last year’s provincial final has sparked huge interest in both Clare and Limerick, particularly after the Banner’s toppling of the All Ireland champions in the round robin phase. Tickets went on sale via Ticketmaster at 12 noon and were also available in certain retail outlets. They were all gone well before 12.30, much to the frustration of many supporters. Stand tickets, the majority of the Gaelic Grounds capacity, are set to be allocated to clubs in the coming days. But, with people not having certainty about receiving those, there was overwhelming demand for the tickets on sale today. Last year’s Munster final saw a similar means of distributing tickets, which also saw many people queuing only to be disappointed.

No tickets are currently available for the Munster Hurling Final after the 11,000 put on general sale this morning were all bought in a mere 11 minutes. All stand tickets and some for the terraces were allocated to clubs earlier in the week, meaning that only a portion of the terrace tickets were put on sale this morning. Yesterday, some of the county’s clubs had announced that the allocations they received were not sufficient to cover the demand from their members, such is the level of interest in what will be the first Clare-Limerick Munster final since 1995. While Clare GAA has been beset by infighting for the last couple of years, the performances of the hurlers this year have been outstanding, and supporters have backed the team in large numbers, with an attendance of over 16,000 at Cusack Park last Sunday, the vast majority backing Clare, even though the Banner had already qualified for the Munster final. With Limerick …

CLARE GAA season ticket holders were excluded from the seated area at Cusack Park last Sunday for the Munster championship clash with Waterford. Also, supporters who bought tickets for the standing areas paid higher prices than what applies for the terraces at the three other Munster Championship venues; Cork, Limerick and Thurles. While the Munster Council originally justified this by saying that general admission would be on offer to all areas in Cusack Park, in actual fact the stand and terraces were segregated on the day. A Clare season ticket holder this week said that when she purchased her ticket last November, she had no idea that when championship came around, she would be denied a seat for Clare’s home games. “When you bought the tickets it said you may not get access to the stand. I assumed that meant that it could happen because all the seats were already taken up, and they couldn’t be reserved. I didn’t think …

TICKET-mania has gripped the county ahead of what is a huge week for Clare GAA, when four teams will be trying to progress in their respective championships. The minor and senior hurlers face Cork in Thurles on Sunday, the senior footballers host Mayo in round 3A of the qualifiers on Saturday while, on Wednesday evening next, the U-21 hurlers will play Limerick in the Munster championship semi-final. The Munster Hurling Championship has always had a special appeal and on Sunday, Clare will contest both the minor and senior finals on the same day for only the fourth time ever. Clare won the minor title in 1981, when captain by John Lynch from Sixmilebridge, but suffered defeat in the senior final. Clare lost to Tipperary in the 1997 Munster minor final but won the senior crown the same day. Less than two months later, both teams were crowned All-Ireland champions. 1997 was the first year of the back-door system. Clare lost …
