Revenue seize cannabis worth over €80,000 at Shannon Airport

REVENUE officers have seized over 4kgs of suspected herbal cannabis from three different parcels at Shannon Airport today (Friday, August 7) The illegal drugs have an estimated value of over €80,000 and were discovered in three separate parcels. Two of the parcels, which originated from the Netherlands, contained 1kg of herbal cannabis each concealed within pillows. The third parcel, which originated from Italy and was declared as ‘garden products’, contained 2kgs of the illegal drug. All three parcels were destined for addresses in Limerick City and County. Investigations are ongoing. These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing routine operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs. Clare Pandemic Unemployment Payment figure revealed

A total of 7,000 people in Clare are claiming the Pandemic Unemployment Payment. The figure has dropped by 7,600 since May 5 when 14,600 people in the county were receiving the payment. According to the latest figures issued today from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, 313,800 people nationally will receive the payment tomorrow, at an overall cost of €97m. This represents a decrease of 31,800 on the 345,600 people paid last week and a decrease of almost 100,000 in the past two weeks. In the past seven days, 28,700 people have closed their claim for a Pandemic Unemployment Payment. Some 13,100 will be receiving their final payment tomorrow on tomorrow, July 21. The top three sectors in which employees are returning to work this week are accommodation and food services; wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor behicles and motorcycles and construction. Dooley concerned for posts at Revenue

Clare TD Timmy Dooley has called on the Revenue Commissioners to reverse its decision to terminate the employment of 63 temporary clerical officer (TCO) positions in Ennis. He says  Revenue is looking to relocate the jobs outside of Clare. Deputy Dooley commented, “It has come to my attention that 63 TCO’s working at the Revenue Commissions offices in Ennis have been advised that their contracts will not be renewed in the coming weeks. This is despite their workload having increased in recent months and them being busier than ever. “Given the increasing workload, it is clear that there is still work to be done at the Revenue Commissioners offices in Ennis. However, I fear that, by ending the employment of these 63 TCOs, management in Revenue is looking to move the jobs outside of Clare. Property tax helpline extended

Due to the very large volume of calls to the LPT (Local Property Tax) Helpline over the last couple of days and the extremely heavy filing rate of almost 8,000 payment notifications per hour, the Revenue Commissioners have extended the payment deadline to 4pm on this Friday. The LPT Helpline (1890 200 255) will remain open until 8pm today (Thursday) and from 8am to 4pm on this Friday. Based on the types of calls received by the Helpline over the last number of days, such as requests for Property ID and PIN and information on payment dates and payment options the Commissioners have advised that most transactions can be done through the online system without any need to make contact.
