Roadbridge receivership end of Coonagh-Knockalisheen Road?

SUBCONTRACTORS and construction suppliers throughout Clare are owed substantial sums of money following the announcement construction giant Roadbridge is going into receivership, leaving the future of its 630 workforce and a further 1,000 indirect positions in jeopardy. The Limerick-headquartered civil engineering and construction firm, which traded for over half a century, sent shock waves throughout the Mid-West when it requested Bank of Ireland on Friday to appoint Grant Thornton as receivers as result of insurmountable financial challenges. This decision also places a major question mark over when projects like the €58 million Coonagh to Knockalisheen Road will be fully completed following the company’s serious financial difficulties. Residents in South-East Clare are becoming increasingly concerned this unexpected setback will result in years of a delay or may even scupper the project entirely for the foreseeable future. Minister bows to pressure and approves €58m road linking Coonagh and Meelick

By Dan Danaher TRANSPORT Minister Eamon Ryan has bowed to considerable political pressure to finally approve the completion of the final phase of a €58 million major road linking Coonagh with Meelick. Questioned several times by Clare and Limerick Dáil deputies from all parties, Minister Ryan had stated he was continuing to consider the recommendation from Limerick County Council regarding the award of the main construction contract for the scheme. This had prompted stinging criticism locally that it meant the final phase of Coonagh to Meelick Distributor road was being effectively shelved. However, Deputy Cathal Crowe has now welcomed Minister Ryan’s confirmation on Limerick’s Live 95 FM that “Phase One of this long-awaited project can finally go ahead”. Tesco Confirms Covid-19 Outbreak As Clare cases remain low

TESCO Ireland has confirmed a number of its retail staff at its Coonagh store have tested positive for Covid-19. A lot of residents in South-East Clare use this Coonagh store regularly to complete their weekly and daily shopping. Responding to Clare Champion queries, Tesco confirmed a number of their employees at their Coonagh store were confirmed cases but declined to disclose a specific number. A Tesco spokesperson said the safety of its colleagues and customers is their number one priority. “Tesco can confirm that a number of our colleagues at our Coonagh store have tested positive for Covid-19. We are fully engaged with the HSE and have followed all appropriate public health advice. “We have made face coverings available to our colleagues, and continue to emphasise that physical distancing, respiratory etiquette and hand hygiene are the most important actions to protect everyone against the spread of COVID-19. Pedestrian fatality on Ennis to Limerick road

Gardaí at Mayorstone in Limerick are continuing their investigation into a fatal accident involving a pedestrian on the main Ennis to Limerick road at Meelick on Saturday morning. A 27-year-old man, who was walking along the hard shoulder of the road, was struck by a truck at 6.45am. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was not injured. It is understood the deceased had been a guest at a wedding at the Radisson Hotel. A section of the road, between the Radisson hotel and the Coonagh roundabout,was closed for a Garda technical examination of the scene.
