A status red warning has been issued for severe winds associated with storm Jorge on Saturday for counties Clare And Galway. Road users are being advised not to make any non-essential journeys in the affected areas during the storm window from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday. Road users are also being warned to be on guard for dangers posed by hazards following the extreme weather event including downed pylons lines, trees and branches. A Status Orange Wind warning for Clare will be in effect from 6am on Saturday to 3am on Sunday. Clare County Council is urging the public not to travel during the red level warning period (1pm to 4.00pm Saturday). Organisers of events scheduled to take place during the red warning in Clare are being advised to postpone events in the interests of public safety. MET Éireann has issued a Status Red warning for Clare from 8pm to 11pm this (Friday) evening. Storm Hannah is due to peak this evening with gusts of 150km per hour expected along the western seaboard. This is the fifth alert issued in relation to Storm Hannah. People are advised to stay indoors and not to drive during the alert.

Bus Éireann is to stand down school transport services when Status Red weather alerts are issued nationally or regionally. This is part of a new policy put in place in the interest of pupil safety, and in line with advice issued by State bodies regarding actions required during these rare warnings. This has been communicated to parents of pupils who avail of these services – via email or letter – and the full policy is available on www.buseireann.ie/StatusRed. Bus Éireann operate the School Transport Scheme on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills (DoES), and there has been significant consultation with the department regarding this new policy. Met Éireann recommends that in the event of a Status Red Weather Warning families “take action to protect themselves and/or their properties; this could be by moving their families out of the danger zone temporarily; by staying indoors; or by other specific actions aimed at mitigating the effects of the weather conditions.” …
