Local Enterprise Office Clare is inviting young entrepreneurs from across the county to submit their entry to Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE) as the competition deadline draws near. With a €2million investment fund available, including a €50,000 investment fund for Clare winners, the initiative from the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and Enterprise Ireland attracted 1,400 applications across Ireland in 2015 and supported over 450 young entrepreneurs through training, mentoring and direct financial assistance. The competition is now in its third year and last year’s local winners were Diarmuid McSweeney of Shannon-based Grasshopper in the Best Start-Up Business category and Overall County Winner; Peter Hunt of Piggyback from Bridgetown in the Best Business Idea category; and Charlie Glynn of Glynn Technical Diamonds based in Kilrush in the Best Established Business category.
