TRIBUTES have been paid to a much loved North Clare woman who sadly passed away last week. Selina O’Sullivan, of School Road, Lahinch was well known throughout the county, particularly for her services to the Irish Red Cross in Clare and Water Safety Ireland Clare.
Selina passed away peacefully in the care of the staff at Milford Care Centre on Monday. She is survived by her husband Kieran, daughter Susan, brother Owen, sisters Joan and Helen, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Marie and Tomsie.
Selina spent many years dedicated to the Irish Red Cross in Clare and in a statement posted online the organisation said, “It’s with great sadness that the Irish Red Cross Clare mourn the passing of Selina O’Sullivan.
“Treasured wife, mother, sister and member of the Irish Red Cross. Former ADU and EMT. We wish our deepest condolences to Selina’s family and friends. May she rest in peace.”
Clare Area Treasurer James Lafferty noted her dedication to the North Clare branch of the organisation and her support of younger members, describing her work in Clare as “Trojan”.
Branches from across the country have also paid their respects including the Irish Red Cross in Nenagh, Fermoy, Carrick-on-Suir and Tipperary area and Monaghan.
Both Selina and her husband were instructors with Water Safety Ireland in Clare. In a statement the organisation said, “Clare Water Safety would like to extend our Deepest Sympathies to
Kieran, Susan and their extended families on the untimely passing of Selina. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam Dílis.”
Hundreds of messages of condolences have been posted online since news of Selina’s death emerged.
Among them, Broadway Dance schools said, “RIP Selina O’Sullivan. The world lost a wonderful woman way too early. Our thoughts are with Susan, Kieran, her family and friends. We will always remember the memories we had with her and how much she did over the years #gonebutneverforgotten”.
Ennistymon Electoral Area Councillor Joe Garrihy wrote, “Deeply saddened. Condolences to Kieran , Susan & all loved ones. May Selina’s beautiful soul rest in peace.”
While Ennis Councillor Mary Howard said she was thinking of the family at this time.
Lahinch hotelier Michael Vaughan commented, “She stood tall any time there was something to be done for anyone in trouble. She was a beacon of Christianity in our community. She will be missed so much but remembered fondly by us all. Heartfelt condolences to you and all the family. RIP Selina x”
