ENNIS will be pedestrianised this Saturday, the first of five days when the town will be closed to vehicles in the run up to Christmas.
Abbey Street, O’Connell Square and O’Connell Street will be pedestrianised on December 5, 12, 19, 20 and 24. The pedestrianisation will apply between 11am and 6pm on the dates in question. There will be parking available close to the pedestrianised zones and at the Holy Family School and Ennis National School. The Christmas lighting in Ennis will be officially switched on by the town’s Mayor Frankie Neylon on Friday at the Christmas tree in the market. Pupils from Ennis National School will provide season entertainment at this ceremony.
Town clerk, Eddie Power said that the town’s Christmas lighting is a big plus.
“The Christmas lighting scheme enhances the attractiveness of Ennis as a place to shop. The lighting on the Christmas tree comprises low energy bulbs and is a continuation of the Council’s investment in modern LED bulbs which were provided as part of a new lighting scheme in Parnell Street in 2008.
“The Parnell Street car park has been refurbished and is available to shoppers. New lighting features have been provided this year that will complement the Christmas lights provided in Parnell Street and Wood Quay car parks. New lighting has also been provided in O’Connell Square. As part of the promotion of the Christmas shopping in Ennis the Christmas lights will operate from 3pm each day.”
