Clare SVP recruiting following the largest number of calls in its history

FOLLOWING a record number of calls for help in 2023, the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP) in Clare is actively recruiting new volunteers in the Ennis area.
Clare SVP will host an information meeting in the Temple Gate Hotel, Ennis at 7.30pm on Wednesday, October 9 for people interested in joining the Society.
Cyril Treanor, Secretary of the Clare SVP said, “We are asking people to consider volunteering with SVP in Ennis and become part of the largest charitable organisation in the country. We have over one hundred volunteer members spread across 14 different local branches in Clare. Last year we received over 5,000 calls for assistance from people experiencing poverty in the whole of County Clare. These branches helped over 1500 different households will food, heating, electricity and education costs.”
He explained, “We are seeking people with the traits of kindness, compassion, discretion, respect and the ability to be non-judgemental. Full training will be provided and the time commitment, while variable, is usually 3-5 hours weekly.
“Our volunteers visit people in their local area, offering support, friendship, and guidance. Volunteers sharing their time and skills can and have changed lives forever.”
He continued, “Our members are our greatest strength; they know the issues in their communities. They can address immediate needs as well as helping families and individuals, young and old, move towards self-sufficiency through friendship and support. Without committed and compassionate volunteers, we could not serve people experiencing poverty.”
“This is a rewarding and challenging opportunity for people to help others in their community. Full training will be provided. We would ask that anyone who might be interested to please come along on the night and meet our volunteers and find out about our work.”
For more information on joining SVP, please call 085 872 0455.
