Trump cancels visit to Doonbeg

DONALD Trump has cancelled his proposed trip to his golf resort in Doonbeg which had been expected to take place in or around the weekend of June 25. Last week the presumptive US Presidential election candidate said that he would be visiting Doonbeg but his Press Tour Director, Stephanie Grisham, confirmed in the early hours of Wednesday morning that the trip will only involve a visit to Scotland. However she did not explain to Irishcentral.com the reason behind the decision not to visit Ireland. Protests against Trump will were planned to take place in Doonbeg, at Shannon airport and possibly Ennis and Doonbeg. A ‘Trump Not Welcome’ group was established following a meeting in Dublin last week and the group confirmed that the first of their protests were due to be held in Dublin on Thursday June 23.

Clare highlighted at Dublin tourism forum

Representatives from the world of online travel arrived in Dublin today (Wednesday) to meet with over 50 Irish tourism businesses. Among those at Evolve Ireland in Croke Park are Shannon Heritage and Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Doonbeg. This is a Fáilte Ireland event tailored to improve online marketing. The operators at the event include representatives from big players in the market such as Booking.com, Expedia and Lastminute.com. The European online tourism market continues to grow year on year and is expected to be worth over €126bn this year. Research has highlighted that Ireland lags behind other markets in terms of fully exploiting digital sales strategies and indicated that knowledge of online platforms needed to improve.

Minister Ring in Clare

MINISTER of State for Touirsm Michael Ring is in County Clare this Tuesday for a number of engagements. At noon he will perform the official opening of the new extension to the Burren Outdoor Centre, at Turlough, Bellharbour. Following this he will meeet the board of directors Lisdoonvarna Failte to dicusss tourism in the North Clare area. Finally, he will travel to West Clare to visit the rebranded Trump International Golf Links, Doonbeg to be briefed on development plans. Minister Ring will be accompanied by Clare Fine Gael Oireachtas members.
