Water outages in North and East Clare

Hundreds of household across North and East Clare are still without water following separate incidents this week.
Clare’s water infrastructure has taken a battering in recent days with a number of issues reported across the county in the wake of Storms Isha and Jocelyn.
Uisce Éireann have reported disruption to customers supplied by O’Briensbridge Water Treatment Plant in East Clare and the Ballymacraven Water Treatment Plant in North Clare, both as a result of burst water mains.
Meanwhile, the service in the Miltown and Quilty area of West Clare should be back to normal today following an issue at Old Doolough Water Treatment Plant.
Uisce Éireann says that dedicated water service crews are carrying out repairs to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible to customers in O’Briensbridge, Montpellier, Bridgetown and surrounding areas as well as to customers in Kilfenora, Lisdoonvarna, Fanore, Doolin and Ballyvaughan.
Homes in these areas may experience low water pressure or full water outages until the issue is resolved.
The water utility have made additional water supplies available at the Community Centre in Montpellier, Cooney’s Bar in Bridgetown and beside the playground in O’Briensbridge.
People are asked to use their own containers when taking water from the tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure, as per HSE advice.
“We thank impacted customers for their patience as we work to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible and it is likely to be Friday before normal water supply is restored to all customers,” said Darragh Conneely of Uisce Éireann.
“We are appealing to customers to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Further information on water conservation is available on our website at www.water/conserve. We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate their patience as we work to return normal water supply.”
Meanwhile, repairs have been completed and water supply has been returning to all customers in West Clare following a mechanical failure at Old Doolough Water Treatment Plant.
The failure had impacted customers in Miltown Malbay, Quilty, Spanish Point, Coore, Creegh, Kilmacduane, Cooreclare and surrounding areas.
