TULLA-based company Beckman Coulter is among the West of Ireland firms who are hoping to attract staff looking to relocate in the wake of the pandemic. It comes as the Western Development Commission (WDC) launched a new online jobs portal aimed at attracting professionals and their families to make new lives in Clare and the western region generally. The site, WesternJobs.ie, will help job seekers to find open roles across the region and assist employers in gauging the availability and depth of skills that they require. In a week dominated by aviation-related headlines, Shannon Chamber hosted a luncheon seminar where two key players in the tourism and travel sectors – Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland and Suzanne Boda, senior vice president Asia, Canada, Europe and Cargo, American Airlines – were guest speakers. Minister of State for Tourism, Michael Ring has announced the provision of an additional €850,000 for Fáilte Ireland, much of which will be invested in developing the web presence of the Wild Atlantic Way and Dublin. The funding is part of the Supplementary Estimate for the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, which was recently announced by Minister Paschal Donohoe. “The provision of €850,000 to Fáilte Ireland as part of the Supplementary Estimate will be used to support IT investments, including promoting the Wild Atlantic Way and Dublin. This will ensure that marketing and social media aspects of promotion can be prioritised so that the message about Ireland’s attractiveness is delivered loud and clear. Shannon Airport has been praised by recently appointed US Ambassador to Ireland, Kevin O’Malley for its key role in supporting the continuing and strong US multi-national presence in the West of Ireland.
