Agriculture Minister, Simon Coveney has confirmed details of a series of regional information meetings on CAP reform implementation that his department has lined up for March. The minister reminded farmers that this is an important opportunity for them to inform themselves on how the key elements of the new CAP reform arrangements will operate. The meeting to cover the Mid-West will be held on Friday, March 20 at the South Court Hotel, Raheen, Limerick. The purpose of these meetings is to provide information to farmers on future requirements in relation to the Basic Payment Scheme under Pillar I and the GLAS scheme under Pillar II of the CAP. The Patients First Campaign is holding a public meeting at 7pm on this Tuesday in the South Court Hotel in Limerick to outline a variety of concerns ahead of Budget 2015. Patients First is the umbrella group for a number of organisations, including the Irish Patients Association, Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, Patient Opinion, Irish Medical Organisation and Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation. Public representatives have been invited to this meeting, which will be attended by people from all over the Mid-West. This will allow them hear, first hand, from past patients, their families, together with the partner organisations in the campaign, what their experience of the health service is and what we expect, from the political system, with regard to developing and protecting our public health service over the next five years. Blood Bike Mid West will be holding a recruitment drive in the South Court Hotel, Limerick, from 11am to 3pm this Saturday. Since being established in October 2012, Blood Bike Mid West has made an invaluable contribution in the provision of transport of medical requisites in the region and beyond. The bikers are kept busy doing runs for urgently needed blood, blood products, patient records, drugs, breast milk for premature and ill babies and other medical requirements between hospitals, blood transfusion banks and the human milk bank. Blood Bikers now operate a regular rota at weekends at the University Maternity Hospital Limerick, transporting documentation and records to and from the hospital and regularly riding to Athlone to collect urgently needed breast milk for premature babies.
