A young cancer survivor has urged young men to check their testicles regularly and to immediately consult their GP if there is any sign of swelling. Daniel Spaight (19), Bridgetown won an Individual Award at the Garda Awards ceremony for bearing testicular cancer bravely with humour despite experiencing “horrible” chemotherapy. He has been chosen to represent Clare at the National Garda Youth Awards. Another St Anne’s Community College student, Aaron Hunt also won an Individual Garda Award. Symptoms of this cancer include a lump or swelling in either testicle, a dull ache in the lower belly or groin, sudden swelling in the scrotum, pain or discomfort in a testicle or the scrotum, back pain and enlargement or tenderness of the breast tissue. Testicular cancer isn’t a common type. It can happen at any age, but it occurs most often between the age of 15 and 45.
