Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic incident following a car entering the sea at The Quay area of Kinvara at approximately 8pm last night. The driver and sole occupant of the car, a man in his late 70s, was taken to University Hospital Galway in a critical condition where he later passed away. Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, particularly any motorists who may have been in The Quay area Kinvara between 7.45am and 8.15am who may have dash cam footage to come forward. TWO people have died and two others have been taken to hospital following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 12noon on Thursday September 26 in Quinpool, Parteen. It’s understood at this time only one vehicle was involved. Two persons were pronounced dead at the scene, while two men in their early 20s were taken to University Hospital Limerick with serious injuries. Forensic Collision Investigators are at the scene and the road remains closed with local diversions are in place. An incident room at Mayorstone Park Garda Station has been set up. Gardaí investigating a single car crash which occurred in Ennis on Easter Sunday have confirmed that there has been a second fatality. Teenager Oisín Cahill was pronounced dead at approximately 4.20am when the car he was travelling in struck the wall of the Woodstock View housing estate on the outskirts of Ennis. Gardaí have confirmed today [Tuesday] that his cousin, Darragh Killeen lost his fight for life at University Hospital Limerick at approximately 3pm. Their friend Enda Hickey remains in hospital in critical condition. All three were from the Clonfeigh area in Inch. The parish of Kilmaley was left trying to come to terms with the tragic accident. On Tuesday morning a special mass was offered in a packed Connolly Church for Oisín. Read More »19 year-old remains in custody over fatal stabbing
Employees at the Shannon Knights night club have been interviewed by gardaí while CCTV footage is being examined to determine the sequence of events which led to a 23 year-old man being fatally stabbed at the weekend. The dead man has been named as Jamie Higgins from Mungret in Limerick city. He is a past pupil of Crescent Comprehensive School in Dooradoyle and was a noted rugby and soccer player. He celebrated his 23rd birthday only last month. A 19-year-old man, also from Limerick city remains in Garda custody in relation to the incident which occurred around 2am on St Patrick’s night. He is still detained at Shannon Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended. Gardaí believe the man in custody and the deceased were known to each other. A 22-year-old man injured during this incident is still being treated at University Hospital Limerick. GARDAÍ are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on Francis Street, Ennis, this Sunday afternoon at approximately 1.40pm. A female, 74 years, was fatally injured when she was struck by a car. The deceased was pronounced dead at scene and was brought to Limerick Regional Hospital. The road was closed at scene to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions were put in place. A COROFIN man in his late sixties has died following a traffic accident in Ennis on Sunday night. He was Joseph O’Loughlin of Newtown, Corofin and formerly of Roxton, Corofin, known to everyone as “small Joe”. The accident occurred in the Upper Market Street area of the town at around 10pm when the car being driven by the deceased hit a parked vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem examination. Three others were in the car at the time. All three were taken to hospital but were later discharged, one with a broken arm. An area of The Market remained sealed off on Monday morning, as gardaí continued a technical examination of the accident scene.
