A FATHER was out walking with his two young children in Ennis town centre last week when he was allegedly assaulted by his first cousin armed with a long handle slash-hook, a court has heard. At Ennis District Court, Garda Alan Hill said that the alleged daylight assault by Peter Molloy (22) – who was wearing a red Man Utd replica top at the time – with a long handle slash-hook on his cousin, Eamon Quinn at Simms Lane, Buttermarket, Ennis shortly after 2pm is part of an ongoing feud between the Molloy and Quinn families. Garda Hill told the court that Mr Quinn suffered lacerations to his left arm and right leg from the alleged assault. He said the two men “are well known to each other as they are first cousins”. TENSIONS are “extremely high” between two families alleged to be involved in a violent feud in Ennis, a court has heard. At Ennis District Court earlier this week, Garda Alan Burke said, “Tensions have been very high over the last couple of months between the two families.” Garda Burke was giving evidence as the State objected to the granting of bail for Michael Doherty (22). Doherty, with an address at St Michael ‘s Park, Ballymaley, Ennis, is charged with two offences arising from an incident at Hogan’s service station, Gort Road, on the outskirts of Ennis on November 18, 2022. Doherty is charged with unlawful possession of a slash hook contrary to section 9 the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act. He is also charged with breach of the peace contrary to section 6 of the Criminal Justice Public Order Act. The court heard Doherty replied “no” to each of the two charges, under caution. Gardaí at Ennis Garda Station are appealing for witnesses as they investigate a number of incidents that occurred over the last week. On Wednesday, November 30, reports were received of a firearm being discharged at Shallee Drive and Cloughleigh Road. Crime prevention officer Sergeant Triona Brooks said, “Thankfully there was nobody injured. Gardaí were quickly at the scene and a number of searches were carried out in the Ennis area after the reports and a number of vehicles have been seized as part of this investigation. THREE men have appeared in court on charges of witness intimidation and assault causing serious harm arising from an alleged inter-family feud in Ennis. Bernie McDonagh (55), Michael McDonagh (32) and Thomas McDonagh (20), all with addresses at the unofficial halting site, Kilrush Road, Ennis, appeared before Ennis District Court this week. All three men were released on bail after lodging sums totalling €2,500 in court. Their cases were adjourned to November 16. The three men are each charged with intimidating Kelly O’Loughlin at Pearse Avenue, Cloughleigh, Ennis, on April 12, 2022. The charge states Ms O’Loughlin is a witness in proceedings and the three men allegedly carried out the offence with the intention of causing the investigation or the course of justice to be obstructed or interfered with.
