THREE people were arrested in Shannon earlier today following a planned search of a house. A small amount of drugs were recovered from the property by Gardai. The three individuals are set to appear at a court sitting on Saturday.

Gardaí have arrested one person following the seizure of a quantity of drugs, cash and designer goods in Ennis. Gardaí in Ennis arrested a motorist last Saturday afternoon after he failed to stop when instructed. During a follow-up operation which included searches under warrant of a residential property in Ennis, suspected cocaine and cannabis to the value of approximately €15,500 were seized. A sum of cash and a quantity of designer goods were also confiscated. The drugs have been sent for forensic analysis and investigations into the matter are ongoing. The arrested individual who is a male in his 20s, was subsequently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in County Clare. He has since been released without charge, and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

ON Tuesday as a result of risk profiling, Revenue officers based at Shannon Airport seized 1 kg of herbal cannabis. The illicit drugs, with an estimated value of €20,000, were discovered in parcels originating from the USA and were destined for an address in Co. Cork. Separately, on Sunday (21/04/2024), as a result of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers based at Shannon Airport seized 26,000 cigarettes during a search of a ship at Foynes Port, Co. Limerick. The cigarettes, branded ‘L & M’, have a retail value of €20,000 and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €16,000. Investigations into the seizures are ongoing.These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing work targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity. AS part of the investigation into criminal activity in Ennis, Gardaí seized €107,500 of controlled drugs and a firearm with ammunition, following a number of searches in the Beechpark area on Wednesday. The searches were carried out by members attached to Clare Detective Units, Clare Community Engagement and the Western Region ASU. During the course of these searches €87,000 of suspected cocaine, €15,000 of suspected amphetamine, €5000 of suspected xanax (2500 tablets), €500 of suspected heroin and €1800 cash was seized. A firearm and ammunition was also recovered. The drugs and firearm will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for examination. No arrests have been made and Gardai say investigations are ongoing.

AT the June meeting of Clare County Council, Fine Gael’s Johnny Flynn said that there have been issues with some homeless facilities in Ennis. “I have been asked by constituents to raise the homeless situation,” said Councillor Flynn. “There was an incidence of people sleeping outside of Westbrook out on the Gort Road, on the green area overnight. Children were passing in and out. “Residents in Aughanteeroe feel they are not getting access to the management of that facility, they need access and meetings on a regular basis to alleviate fears and concerns,” he said. Councillor Flynn also said residents in the area were concerned that a homeless hostel may be put into a HSE office building adjacent to Westbrook. GARDAI in Clare have seized cocaine with an estimated value of €35,000, two air guns and arrested a man following a search this morning, Saturday, October 16. As part of Operation Tara, Gardaí attached to the Clare Divisional Drugs Unit and Kilrush Garda Station conducted a search in the west Clare region. During the course of the search, Gardai seized cocaine valued at €35,000 (subject to analysis), along with one air rifle and one air gun. A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested by Gardaí in connection with this seizure and is currently detained at Kilrush Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) 1996. The drugs seized will now be sent for further analysis. Investigations ongoing.
