CLARE Rose, Aisling O’Connor is ready to bloom at the Rose of Tralee International Festival on Tuesday night in memory of her late parents and to acknowledge the tremendous support all the family has received from her native Feakle. Describing the Festival “as a once in a lifetime experience”, the former gymnast and ballet dancer is hoping to glide through the famous Tralee Dome to honour her deceased parents, Pat and Denise, who she believes continue to guide her and her five brothers spiritually. Her selection as the Clare Rose of Tralee contestant at the Inn at Dromoland proved to be poignant as it was announced in the early hours of March 12 on the date of her late father’s birthday. In total, 21 Clare girls competed in the Clare final for the Rose of Tralee. Boosted by a surprise party in Pepper’s Pub, Feakle recently, Ms O’Connor is very proud to represent her native, Feakle and East Clare at …

RAPE Crisis Midwest is facing a “significant” shortfall in funding this year, with no funding for overheads or rent for their Ennis centre at the Tracklands Business Park. The organisation recently launched a range of promotional products in Glór, with the aim of highlighting the centre and raising funds to allow the valuable work of the organisation to continue in the Mid-West. Over 70 guests attended the launch, with the event attended by public representatives, staff and volunteers of Rape Crisis Midwest, press, An Garda Siochána, Child and Family Agency and other charitable organisations in the locality. The promotional items were purchased after the organisation received a grant from COSC, the National Office for the Prevention of Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence. The guest speaker was Marie Donnellan, in her last formal role as Clare Rose. Marie is following the tradition of many other Roses in establishing a relationship with Rape Crisis centres. According to the executive director of Rape …

The search is officially underway to find the 2014 Clare Rose. Ladies with designs on the sash are being urged to take the first step of putting themselves in the spotlight by submitting an online application form for the selection process, which could end up with them on stage with Daithí Ó Sé in the Dome in Tralee this August. One of the most unique aspects of the Clare Rose selection process is that it models itself on that of the International Festival itself, to give all the Clare Roses a taste of what Tralee could have in store for them. There are a number of events taking place in the run-up to the April 19 selection night, with the much-loved Clare Rose Tour, in particular, taking place across the county on April 12. Clare Rose Centre chairman Ciarán O’Connell acknowledged that the response has already been phenomenal. “We’ve been blown away by how many expressions of interest we’ve had …
