Three in Clare District court on organised crime charges

THREE men are due to appear before Ennis District Court this morning, in connection with directing and participating or contributing to the activities of a criminal organisation in County Clare. The arrests were made following an investigation into organised crime in County Clare, which began in 2018. All three men are in their 20s. One man has been charged in connection with directing an organised crime group, while the two others have been charged with participating in, or contributing to the activities of a criminal organisation. They will appear before Ennis District Court this morning, at 10.30am.

Clare gardai probe traffic collision after cyclist injured

GARDAÍ in Clare have issued a renewed appeal for witnesses to a road traffic collision in which a cyclist was injured. The incident occurred just over one month ago in Ennis, on Tuesday, June 8, at Clare Road. A female cyclist reported that while she was cycling inbound on the Clare road towards Ennis town she collided with a vehicle while travelling around a roundabout. The vehicle, an older model gold coloured Volkswagen Passat, pulled in front of her exiting the roundabout causing the collision. The Passat was travelling towards the Hawthorns Estate from the Clare road. The cyclist suffered minor injuries. The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 8 at Clare Road, Ennis and gardaí are asking anybody with information to contact Ennis Garda Station at 065 6848100.

Cig machine and register lifted in Clare village shop raid

GARDAÍ are seeking the public’s help in identifying a car which is thought to have been used in a South East Clare burglary. A shop in Broadford was broken into in the early hours of last Thursday morning and a cigarette machine and the drawer of the cash register stolen. A silver Audi is believed to have been used in the incident, and gardaí are appealing to anybody with information to contact them. Clare Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Triona Brooks explains that the break-in to the shop on the main street of Broadford village occurred between 3.30am and 3.45am on Thursday morning, June 24. “The shutter mechanism was interfered with and the front door was smashed in. Bitcoin bandits posing as gardai try to scam Clare man

SCAMMERS cloned the phone number of Shannon Garda Station and persuaded a local man to lodge €5,000 cash into a Bitcoin machine, writes Jessica Quinn. Fortunately, after contacting gardaí in Shannon the man was able to retrieve his money. This is just one of numerous reports of scams operating in Clare during the week. Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Triona Brooks has warned, “Never give out your information be it over the phone, text or email.” She outlined that the Shannon resident received a call from a 085 number. The man on the phone said that there was a warrant out for his arrest and asked him what was his local Garda Station, with the victim replying Shannon. “The caller then told him he would get a further call with instructions. Gardai seek witnesses to North Clare assault

GARDAI are seeking witnesses to an assault at a north Clare resort in the early hours of Sunday morning. At approximately 00.45 a.m. on Sunday, June 20, an unprovoked assault took place on a young man in Saddle Lane, Lahinch. The suspect was not known to him and was possibly wearing a black or blue jumper. The young man sustained a broken nose and cut to his lip. If anyone was in the area of Saddle Lane which is a residential lane between Lahinch Surf shop and Beach Burger Takeaway and witnessed this assault they are asked to ring Ennistymon Garda Station on 065 6837622 or any Garda Station.

Gardai probe double burglary in Clare town

GARDAI are investigating the burglary of two neighbouring premises in Killaloe. In the early hours of Wednesday, June 9, at around 3.50am there was a break-in at Bless Café, Convent Hill, Killaloe. The premises was broken into by forcing entry through the front and a sum of money was taken. Following on from this burglary at 3.55am Green Cross Pharmacy, adjacent to the café was targeted. Again entry was forced into the premises and a quantity of prescription medication was taken during the raid. Gardai believe the incident is connected with three burglaries which occurred in Limerick on the same night. The vehicle used in the crimes is believed to be a black Audi A5. It is thought that it travelled in the direction of O Brien’s Bridge. A suspect was apprehended in Galway and he has been arrested and charged in relation to some of the crimes. Money stolen in Clare without card theft or suspicious approach

GARDAI have notified this week of more people in Clare falling victim of fraud despite not interacting with scammers or losing their bank cards. A male reported that between April 25 and June 2, suspicious transactions appeared on his bank account. There were seven transactions in total. The bank card was in the possession of injured party and he did not respond to any suspicious texts or phone calls. On June 1, a female reported that she had noticed two transactions debited from her current account. Both transactions were from an online store. The victim had her card in her possession and has not shopped with this online store recently. Investigations are ongoing and members of the public are reminded to be vigilant in monitoring of their banking transactions and do not click on any links in text messages or emails. Gardai fear powerful car stolen in Clare for purposes of crime

GARDAI investigating the theft of a high-powered car stolen from a county Clare village are appealing for witnesses. Last Thursday, June 3, at 04.30am a house in Clarecastle village was broken into by forcing access through a rear door – the keys to the owner’s car were taken and the car stolen. The car is a black Audi S3 hatchback with a 3 litre engine. It has distinctive features including chrome surround on the window pillars, custom black wheels, and chrome wing mirrors. This is a very identifiable car. As this is such a high powered vehicle, we believe it may have been targeted specifically and may be considered for use in the commission of crime. The car was later spotted travelling south bound on the M20 in County Limerick. If anyone saw anything suspicious or has dash cam footage they are asked to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065-6848100.
