Cannabis herb seized during raid in Clare county town

A GARDA operation in Ennis recently saw €6,000 of suspected drugs seized. On Monday, February 28 at 4pm, the Divisional Drugs Unit conducted a search under warrant at a house in Ennis. During the course of this search €6,000 worth of suspected Cannabis Herb was seized. A male in his late 20s was arrested at the scene and detained at Ennis Garda Station. The suspect has since been released from custody and a file is now being prepared for submission to the DPP. All the suspected controlled substances have been forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. This seizure forms part of Operation Tara which is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy. The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.

Clare gardai warn over Electric Ireland refund scam

CLARE gardai have reiterated warnings about cyber crime and fraud after a recent incident in the county. During the week a woman received an email claiming to be from Electric Ireland and telling her that she was due a refund of €101.89. The communication instructed her to click the link on the email where it asked for her bank details. Luckily she didn’t enter any details – Anyone who rings, texts or emails you out of the blue and requests personal information such as bank details, they are not to be trusted. Do not click into any links they send you or call the number they contact you from or that is stated in their email.   If you think you have been scammed stop communication immediately, contact your bank if you have sent money and don’t be afraid to report it to the Gardaí – you will be treated with total confidentiality. Clare gardai seize drugs in three separate operations

CLARE gardai mounted a number of operations in the past week seizing over €6,000 worth of illegal drugs. On Tuesday, February 22 at 8 pm detectives and uniformed gardaí from Ennistymon and Kilrush conducted a search under warrant at a house in the Lahinch area of the county. During the course of this search €4,600 worth of suspected Cannabis Herb was seized. A male in his late 20s was arrested at the scene and detained at Kilrush Garda Station. This man has since been released from custody and a file is now being prepared for submission to the DPP. The following evening at at 9pm, the Divisional Drugs Unit stopped a car in the Ennis town area and conducted a search of the vehicle. During the course of this search suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €1,500 was seized. Clare people warned over property rental scams

GARDAÍ are advising people in Clare to be wary of rental scams. “While it can be more common to happen when students are beginning their academic year, it can occur any time of the year,” warns Garda Eimear McDonagh, Ennis Garda Station. She outlines the scams fall into three broad categories. In one, the scammer claims to be out of the country and cannot show you the property and requests a deposit. In another the scammer is living at the property and shows a number of people around, takes a deposit from several interested people and then disappears with the money. While in the third type the transaction appears to be normal until the renter finds that the keys don’t work and the landlord has disappeared. Gardai are advising, “People need to establish that the property does in fact exist and that it is available to rent. “Ideally only do business with bona fide rental agencies. Clare gardai warning over suspicious callers

REPORTS of suspicious callers to homes in Clare claiming to be from PhoneWatch are being investigated by gardaí. Last Tuesday evening, February 8, at 8.30pm four males called to a house in Fermoyle, Kilmore. When the owner opened the door they got back into a dark coloured 212 vehicle and left the area. These males had PhoneWatch jackets on. “We have had further reports of a male calling to houses in Inch and Ballyea areas claiming to be from PhoneWatch and looking for cash deposits for products,” outlines crime prevention officer Sergeant Triona Brooks. She advises, “If you are going to engage, ask for ID. A genuine caller won’t mind. The basic rule is if you don’t know the person at your door, you shouldn’t let them in and if you are anxious contact your local Gardaí immediately. “For those people who may have elderly or vulnerable neighbours or friends, be a good neighbour and advise them of these bogus …

Woman assaulted during break-in to Ennis home

GARDAí are appealing for witnesses after two people burgled a home in Ennis and assaulted a woman in the house. The incident occurred in the Dun na Hinse estate at 11.43 p.m. on Thursday, February 10. Two males dressed in black and wearing black masks entered an apartment in the estate and assaulted the female resident. When they left the apartment they jumped the wall at the rear. It is not known what vehicle was used and what direction they left in. Crime prevention officer Sergeant Triona Brooks said, “We are appealing for anyone who may have seen any car or persons acting suspiciously in Dun Na Hinse on the night of Thursday February 10 between 23.30hrs – 00.00hrs. “We are also appealing to a person who passed near the scene at 23.45hrs on an electric scooter wearing a high-vis jacket to contact Ennis Garda Station on 6848100.”

Pigeons stolen as Clare gardai probe spate of burglaries

A BURGLAR in Ennis flew the coop after making off with some pigeons, and gardaí are appealing to anybody with information to contact them. At approximately 9pm on Thursday, February 3 a male was seen jumping the rear wall of a house in the Lenabeg estate on Drumcliffe Road. A short time later he got back over the wall carrying a black bin bag. When the owner returned home he realised that five pigeons had been stolen from their coop at the rear of his house. This is just one of a number of burglaries to occur in recent weeks which gardaí across the county are investigating. In Kilrush between 6pm Monday, January 31 and 12 midnight on Tuesday, February 1 the rear window of a house in Place de Plouzane, Kilrush was smashed. Witness appeal for horse hit and run on Clare beach

CLARE gardai have issued a renewed appeal for witnesses to an incident in Lahinch in October when a man was struck by a horse, whose rider subsequently left the scene. The incident occurred between 2.20pm and 2.25pm on Sunday, October 24, 2021 when a male in his forties was struck by a horse while walking on Lahinch beach close to O Brien’s Bridge, which is located at the Liscannor side of Lahinch Beach. There was a young girl in her late teens with the horse. It is believed that the horse and the girl left in the direction of Liscannor. The gentleman received medical attention as a result of this. Local enquiries have been conducted but the identity of the horse and jockey remain unknown. An appeal is being made for any witnesses who may have any information to assist with the identification of the horse/ jockey or any transport that was used to contact Ennistymon Garda Station on 7072180.
