Bogus tradesmen warning after two incidents in Clare

CLARE gardai have urged the public to be vigilant following two complaints about bogus trademen in the past week. Clare crime prevention officer Sergeant Triona Brooks said, “At 1pm last Thursday, February 2, three males called to a house on Main Street, Kilfenora and told the lady that they were going to clean her gutters. “She said that the landlord hadn’t told her this but the males commenced to clean the gutters but only for a few minutes. They then requested payment of €200 from the lady who paid the money over only to discover when she told the owner of the house he had not employed anyone to do this job.” She added that Gardaí at Killaloe received a report during the week from a home owner in Fossabeg, Scariff reporting that a male called to his home in a white van, claiming to work for a certain water company and said he was investigating a leak. “This male …

Gardai seize drugs after stopping car in Ennis industrial estate

GARDAI in Ennis seized some €8,800 worth of suspected cannabis herb when they stopped and searched a car in an industrial estate in the town. On Tuesday, January 24, uniformed Gardaí from Ennis stopped the car, driven by a male in his late 20s. Upon searching the vehicle, they discovered approximately €8,800 worth of suspected Cannabis Herb. The driver of the car was arrested and detained under the provision of Section 2 Drug Trafficking Act 1996 at Ennis Garda Station. He was later released from custody pending submission of investigation file to the office of the DPP for directions. The suspected controlled substances have been forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for examination.

Deer injured in Clare shooting had to be put down

GARDAI are appealing for information about an incident that occurred near Crusheen last Friday. Clare crime prevention officer, Sergeant Triona Brooks said that two deer were shot and injured on lands at Calluragh, Crusheen at 8.30am last Friday morning, January 20. As a result of their injuries both deer had to be put down. “If anyone saw any suspicious vehicle or persons in this area between 8am and 9am last Friday, we would ask them to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 6848100,” said Sergeant Brooks.

Gardai probe attempted robbery in west Clare village

Gardaí at Kilrush Garda Station are investigating the attempted robbery from a group of friends in Doonbeg last week. Clare crime prevention officer Sergeant Triona Brooks said, “On Wednesday evening, January 18, at 7.30pm, three friends got off a bus on Main Street, Doonbeg. “They were approached by three individuals who demanded that they hand over their property. “Thankfully the three friends ran and took refuge in a shop. “We are asking anyone who saw this incident or anyone who may have any information to please contact Kilrush Garda Station on 065 9080550.”

Gardai investigate after shots fired in Ennis in broad daylight

GARDAÍ have launched an investigation after shots were fired in broad daylight in Ennis this week. Nobody was injured during the incident which occurred at around 2.45pm on Tuesday in the Beech Park area of Ennis. A video which appears to show the incident has been circulating on social media showing two men dressed in black while a third person filmed them. Superintendent John Galvin of Ennis Garda Station told the Clare Champion that gardaí are “actively investigating” the incident including carrying out of a number of follow up searches. He appealed to anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward to gardaí. “Anybody who was in the area at the time or who may have dash cam footage we would appeal to them to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 684 8100 or  or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.”

Dog owners warned after attack on sheep in Clare

GARDAI are appealing to all dog owners to ensure their charges are kept under control aftr they received reports of livestock being attacked by dogs. At 3.30pm last Sunday, January 8, a farmer saw a large black dog attacking his sheep on his land at Magherabawn in Feakle. The attack resulted in one of the sheep receiving injuries to his hind legs. Clare crime prevention officer Sergeant Triona Brooks said, “The owner of a dog is liable in damages for damage caused in an attack on any person by the dog and for injury done by it to any livestock. “If anyone has any information in relation to any of these incidents or if anyone saw anything suspicious or has dash cam footage we would ask them to contact their local Garda Station, any Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.”

Gardai warning as Clare person scammed out of €2,400

GARDAI have renewed their appeal for vigilance around personal banking details in the wake of a Clare person being scammed out of a large sum of money. Clare crime prevention officer Sergeant Triona Brooks said, “During the week we received a report from a person who received a text message and followed a link and entered their bank details on the link as they were expecting a parcel. “This person later realised this was a scam as €2,400 was taken from their account. “We again want to remind people not to follow links sent on a text or email and never divulge your account details including PIN.”

Clare Gardai urge vigilance following home heating oil thefts

CLARE gardaí are urging home owners to secure their fuel supplies in the wake of two separate thefts of home heating oil in recent days. Between December 5 and 12 a half tank of home heating oil was siphoned from a tank at the rear of a house in the Ardnaculla estate in Ennistymon. And in a separate incident, sometime between December 13 and 15 a full tank of oil was stolen from a tank at the rear of a house in Sycamore Drive, Kilrush. Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Triona Brooks says, “Again we want to advise home owners of the following security tips for oil tanks: Security lights / sensors can have a very positive effect and make property a much harder target for the thief. “Invest in a good quality closed shackle padlock and fit it to the tank opening.
