Gardai appeal for witnesses to Ennis break-in

GARDAI are appealing for witnesses following a break-in to a business in Ennis in the early hours of Monday morning. Between 3.55am and 4.10am, a business premises located on O’Connell Street, Ennis was broken into. The front door was forced open and entry gained – a number of items were then taken from a glass cabinet. Gardai have asked if anyone was in the area of O’Connell Street during these times and witnessed this break-in or anyone who may have dash cam footage to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065-6848100.

Youth charged with violent disorder over Clare resort incident

A 16-year-old male has been charged with violent disorder arising from a late night row in Kilkee that saw three people sustain head injuries, writes Gordon Deegan. At the Children’s Court of Kilrush District Court sitting in Ennis, Sergeant Louis Moloney said that CCTV footage shows the teenager – then aged 15 – breaking a bottle off a wall and running with it towards a row which was off camera. In the case, the teenager is charged with committing violent disorder at the Strand Line, Kilkee, on July 31 2020 contrary to Section 15 of the Criminal Justice Act. Sergeant Moloney said that no injured party named the teenager as the person who carried out the attacks on the three injured parties. He said that one of those assaulted required 43 stitches and staples to injuries to his head and arm. Sergeant Moloney stated that another male required five staples to a head injury and a female required five stitches …

Spate of thefts from parked cars in county Clare

GARDAI are seeking help from members of the public in their investigations into a spate of thefts from parked cars across the county. Last Friday afternoon around 1.20pm, two cars that were parked at Bunratty Folk Park were broken into. The window of one car was smashed and a blue Michael Kors handbag containing a black Apple iPhone and passports was stolen and a wallet was stolen from the second car. A red Renault Clio hatchback car was seen leaving the area after the break-ins. Following an intelligence lead operation, Gardaí arrested two males in connection with this incident. Some property has been recovered and a male in his 30s was brought before a sitting of the Ennis District Court charged with offences linked to this incident. Dogs’ role in Clare sheep kill unproven, but licence charge sticks

A COUNTY Clare farmer has told of his distress after losing 14 of his animals in a ‘sheep kill’ last year, writes Gordon Deegan. At Killaloe District Court, farmer, Martin Cooke said of the shocking find “I wouldn’t wish it on anyone”. After arriving on February 16 2020 on his lands adjacent to a canal bank at Clonlara, he couldn’t see any of his sheep but did see two dogs nearby. Mr Cooke said that there were around 50 sheep in the flock and after searching, six or seven dead sheep had to be fished out of the canal. He had earlier spotted two dead sheep floating down the river adjacent to his land-holding. Mr Cooke told the court that 13 sheep were found dead from the sheep kill and another had to be put down afterwards to bring the death toll to 14. Clare gardai seize €10k of drugs in Ennis raid

As part of the ongoing Operation Tara, a garda raid on a house in Ennis yielded drugs with a street value of almost €10,000 On Friday, September 17, at 9.10pm, gardaí from the Clare Divisional Drugs Unit carried out a search under warrant at a house in Ennis. They discovered a quantity of suspected Cannabis Herb with an estimated street value of €3,200 and suspected Cocaine with an estimated street value of €6,790. No arrests were made at the time but investigating Gardaí are following definite lines of enquiry and a file will be prepared for submission to the office of the DPP. The suspected controlled drugs will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

Fewer than 30 Clare emergency calls received inappropriate response in two-year period

THE number of emergency calls made to Clare Gardaí that didn’t receive an appropriate response is less than 30, according to a garda chief. Garda Commissioner Drew Harris recently publicly apologised to domestic violence victims who made emergency calls for help but did not receive the standard of service from gardaí that they required and to which they were entitled. Mr Harris issued the apology at a Policing Authority meeting after a garda inquiry into how 999 calls were dealt with found that more than 600 emergency calls in 2019 and 2020 were cancelled before there was an appropriate policing response. The inquiry is examining more than 3,000 cancelled 999 calls to gardaí about domestic violence, missing persons or health issues. Superintendent Sean Colleran outlined the number of reported breaches of a barring order, safety order, protection order, which fell from 89 for the first eight months of 2020 to 60 for the same period this year – a percentage …

‘Call of nature’ leads to theft from elderly Clare man

GARDAI are appealing for help from the public after money was stolen from an elderly Clare man who had allowed a stranger use his bathroom. The money was stolen from a house in Quin after the owner admitted the stranger to his home so he could use the facilities. Around 6pm on Sunday, September 5, a male described as in his 50s with dark clothing and possibly a foreign accent called to the home of the elderly gentleman in Applefort, Quin. He asked could he use the bathroom. The owner left the man into his house and realised later that a sum of money was taken from his bedroom. If anyone was in the area of Applefort last Sunday week and saw this male, they are asked to contact Ennis Garda Station on 6848100.

Gardai appeal for witnesses to Clare thefts and burglaries

GARDAÍ are appealing for witnesses to a number of thefts and burglaries around county Clare in the past week. In the early hours of Wednesday, August 25 between 12.10 and 12.15, a restaurant in Twomilegate, Killaloe was broken into. The property’s shutter was tampered with and a window broken to gain access and the cash box containing a sum of money was stolen In Connolly meanwhile, between August 20 and 23, a purple Pneumatic drill rock breaker was stolen. Council workers reported the theft to gardaí. In Ennistymon, some time between 11pm on Tuesday last and 8am Wednesday morning, agricultural diesel was syphoned from a tank in a yard in Ballyraneen. In Shannon on Wednesday, between 10.20pm and 10.30pm, a black electric scooter was stolen from outside a house in the Cul na Greine estate. Last Friday, between 2 pm and 4pm, entry was gained to a downstairs bedroom through an unsecured window of a house in the Phoenix Court …
