Appeal for information after SUV and firearm stolen in Clare

GARDAI are appealing for information about an incident concerning the theft of an SUV and firearm in county Clare. Between 10 pm on Sunday, January 9 and Monday morning, January 10, a black Toyota Landcruiser was stolen from the driveway of a house in Coad, Kilnaboy. A single-barrel Stevens shotgun and cartridges were in the vehicle, which was subsequently located in the Lenabeg estate on the Lahinch Road Ennis on Saturday, January 15. The shotgun had been taken from the vehicle. Also during the night of January 9 a business premises on Main Street, Corofin was broken into. While nothing was stolen during the course of this burglary gardai believe the two incidents may be connected. Clare gardai issue advice over bogus callers/tradespeople

WITH Clare people continuing to fall foul of bogus callers and rogue tradesmen, gardai have issued security advice to the public. Clare crime prevention officer Sergeant Triona Brooks has provided a check list of advice to follow should you be confronted with suspicious callers • Are you expecting callers? If not, look out the window to see the caller. • Have a viewer fitted in your door – you are safer behind a closed door. • Have a door chain / limiter fitted and keep the chain/ limiter on, if you must open the door use the limiter. There are electric doorbells that link to your mobile phone. • Make sure your back door is locked before you go to the front door • If you are going to engage, ask for ID – a genuine caller won’t mind! • Use recommended tradespeople, avoid using the services of cold callers. • The basic rule is if you don’t know the …

Gardai probe potential arson attack in east Clare

CLARE gardai are appealing for information about a potential arson attack in an east Clare community last week. On Wednesday night, January 5, a caravan and mobile home parked at Ballydonaghan, Bodyke were set on fire and both were totally burnt out. A garda spokesperson noted that this is a rural area in Bodyke and said, “If there was anyone in the area of Balydonaghan between 11pm and 11.30pm last Wednesday and saw anything suspicious we would ask them to contact Scariff Garda Station on 061 922790.

Garda investigation in Lisdoonvarna following unexplained death

A GARDA investigation has begun in Lisdoonvarna, following the discovery of the body of a man in his seventies in unexplained circumstances at a residence this morning. At the moment a road adjacent to the Square in Lisdoonvarna has been closed off and there is a substantial Garda presence in the area. The scene has been preserved and a technical examination is to be carried out by the Garda Technical Bureau. The office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

Clare gardai issue appeal over stolen boat

GARDAI are appealing for information about the theft of a boat from Killaloe. There is a significant window of time in which the boat and outboard engine could have been taken from The Boathouse, Annacarriga in Killaloe. The theft could have occurred at any time between November 21 and December 26. The boat is described as a 20 foot 5 seat fiberglass vessel, beige in colour with a green top and wooden trim. The electric start outboard engine was also stolen. Anyone with information is asked to contact gardai in Killaloe on 061-620540.

Criminal damage caused with traffic cones in Clare village

A traditional outcome of drunken revelry – stealing traffic cones – occurred in Newmarket-on-Fergus before Christmas. This incident, however, proved no laughing matter for a local business, resulting as it did in criminal damage to their stock. At approximately 2.20 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, a number of traffic cones and hazard bollards were taken from the edge of the forecourt of N18 Autos on Ennis Road, Newmarket-on-Fergus. These cones and bollards were placed on the bonnets and roofs of four cars for sale on the forecourt causing paint and scratch damage to the cars. The forecourt is at the former Great Gas service station past the soccer pitch on the Ennis Road. Gardaí in Newmarket-on-Fergus are appealing for witnesses – anyone that may have driven by or came through the village on the Ennis Road after 2am on Saturday morning, December 18 and witnessed this incident is asked to contact Newmarket-on-Fergus Garda Station on 061 368172.

Gardai probe number of burglaries around Clare

GARDAÍ are investigating a number of burglaries throughout County Clare in recent days, writes Jessica Quinn. On December 14 at 5.55pm in Abbeyville, Ennis an intruder gained entry to the house via patio door. The intruder was disturbed by the house’s resident and then fled the area. The following day between 5.45pm and 8pm in Corrovorrin, Ennis the glass at the back of a house was smashed and entry gained. In a separate incident on December 15 at Fort View, Creaggaunahilla, Clarecastle between 12pm and 7.30 pm the glass at the back of a house was smashed and entry gained. Anyone with any information on any of these burglaries is asked to contact Ennis Gardaí at 065 6848100. In Killaloe, gardaí are appealing to anybody with information on a 181 WX black VW Golf which is believed to have been involved in a burglary at a business premises on December 16. Clare gardai target ‘defective and dangerously modified vehicles’

A MAJOR operation by the Clare Roads policing Unit took place in Ennis recently targeting defective and dangerously modified vehicles. Almost 20 vehicles were stopped and examined, one of which was found to be dangerously defective having failed its NCT recently. Three others were stopped due to major defects and over 40 other defects were detected on other vehicles in the course of the operation. Two motorists were arrested on suspicion of drink driving and two others are set to face prosecution for dangerous driving. Drivers found to have minor defects were advised and cautioned to fix the defects.
