Clare gardaí probe firebomb attack on house in Ennis

GARDAI in Ennis are investigating the firebombing of a house in the county town in the early hours of Monday morning. It is also believed a firearm was discharged during the incident which occurred at ten past midnight on November 22 when a number of males in a dark vehicle called to a house in Pearse Avenue, Cloughleigh. The glass beside the front door was smashed and glass bottles with flammable liquid were thrown at the house. It is believed that a firearm was discharged. Nobody was physically injured in this incident. The males then left the area and shortly after, a vehicle was located after being set on fire on the Kilrush Road. If anyone witnessed this incident or has any information that would assist in the investigation, gardai are asking them to contact Ennis Garda Station on 6848100.

Fake Facebook friend sees Clare woman conned out of €15k

GARDAÍ in Ennis are investigating a new approach by online fraudsters which leads people to think that they are connecting with people they know and trust, writes Jessica Quinn. A woman contacted by scammers pretending to a be a friend on a social media platform was recently conned out of €15,000. Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Triona Brooks explained, “The fraudsters managed to identify an actual friend of the injured party and set up a ghost/cloned Facebook Account where they purported to be the actual friend. “Then via Facebook they informed the lady she had won the lottery online and that her details were also there as a winner. “In order to release the winnings, the lady was told by her ‘friend’ that they had to send monies to other parties. The lady then unfortunately sent €15,000 via iTunes vouchers and physical cash.” Sergeant Brooks warned, “We want to advise people that the person behind the Facebook page may not be …

Gardai issue advice after spate of thefts from cars in Clare

GARDAI have advised the Clare public to be more careful about security saying one third of cars broken into are unlocked at the time. The advice comes in the wake of a spate of thefts from parked cars around the county. On November 9, at 2.40am a resident in the Glassan estate on the Lahinch Road rang Ennis Garda Station to say that a male was acting suspiciously in the driveway of a house. Gardaí went immediately to the scene and a male in his mid-30s who was seen leaving the estate on a bike was arrested and detained at Ennis Garda Station. This male was found to be in possession of a black Samsung phone which had been stolen on the previous date from an unlocked car on the Kilrush Road in Ennis. Clare gardai appeal for witnesses to assault and robbery

GARDAÍ are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked and robbed by a gang of men last weekend in Ballina. In the early hours of Sunday morning, November 7 between 12 midnight and 2am as a couple left a fast food restaurant on the main street of Ballina they were approached from behind by four or five males. The man received a punch to the back of the head and a black eye before falling to the ground. The men stole his Tommy Hilfiger jacket, a black Tommy Hilfiger wallet and a black Apple iPhone 7. “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Main Street, Ballina and witnessed this incident or anyone who may have dash cam footage to contact Killaloe Garda Station on 061 620540,” said a garda spokesperson.

Gardai seek witnesses after man found with head injuries in Ennis

GARDAI have renewed an appeal for witnesses to an incident which occurred last Wednesday, October 27 in Ennis. A male was found with head injuries in the Clon Road area of Ennis town at around 9pm on that evening. Anyone who may have witnessed anything or may have dashcam footage from this area at the time are kindly asked to contact Ennis Garda station at 065 6848100 or any Garda station. There is one witness in particular that Gardai would like to speak to. This person assisted with traffic management before Gardai arrived at scene. The witness is a male and is described as being 5’8” in height with tight brown hair wearing grey tracksuit bottoms. Gardai are looking for this person to contact them at Ennis Garda Station.

Witness appeal as boy threatened and robbed in Ennis park

GARDAI are appealing for witnesses after money was robbed from a young teenager in Ennis at the end of last week. On Thursday evening at 5.10pm, a 13-year-old boy who was in the Tim Smyth Park, Lifford was verbally threatened by a young male to hand over money. The boy handed money over to the man. The boy was not physically injured in the incident, but this was very traumatic for him. A garda spokesperson said, “This is usually a busy time in the Park and if anyone saw this incident or anyone who has any information we would ask them to contact Ennis Garda Station on 6848100.”

Tip-off from public leads to arrest in Ennis

A MAN in his twenties was arrested in relation to alleged interference with cars in Ennis last week. In the early hours of Tuesday morning at 2.48am a call was received at Ennis Garda Station saying that a man was trying car doors in the Westwood estate on Golf Links Road. Gardaí went immediately to the scene and apprehended a male who had a volume of coins in his pockets. The man was arrested and detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Ennis Garda Station. He was later charged and released from custody to appear at a sitting of Ennis District Court on a later date in October. “We would like to thank the member of the public who rang in this call to Ennis Garda Station,” said Clare Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Triona Brooks.

Gardai seek help with beer keg thefts from Clare pubs

THIRSTY thieves had a busy afternoon last Tuesday swooping to steal ten kegs of beer from outside two Clare pubs. Gardai are appealing to the public for information about the theft of the kegs from outside the pubs in two Clare villages. Both incidents occurred on the same afternoon at locations 17km distant from one another. On Tuesday, October 5, between 11.30am and 4pm, four kegs of Guinness and one keg of Tuborg were stolen from outside a public house on the Main Street in Tulla. Between 12 noon and 1.30pm three kegs of Guinness and two kegs of Tuborg were stolen from the car park of a public house on Church Street, Sixmilebridge. This would have been a busy enough time in both these areas, according to Clare crime prevention officer Sergeant Triona Brooks. “If anyone saw these thefts taking place or saw anything suspicious, we would ask them to contact Ennis Garda Station on 6848100,” said Sergeant Brooks.
