Witness appeal after man assaulted and robbed in Clare town

GARDAI are appealing for witnesses to an assault and robbery that took place on Friday night/Saturday morning. Gardaí in Kilrush are investigating the robbery which occurred at 12.30am on April 2 at Toler Street, Kilrush. A man was walking along Toler Street when he was approached by a male wearing dark clothing. This male knocked him into bushes at the side of the street and took a sum of money from him and left on foot. If anyone was in the area of Toler Street between 12 midnight and 12.45 a.m. and saw this male or anyone who has dash cam footage they are asked to contact Kilrush Garda Station on 9080550.

Mother and children suffer traumatic incident in broad daylight

GARDAI are appealing for witnesses to the attempted robbery of a woman in broad daylight in front of her two children. On Sunday, April 3, at 1.10pm the woman was walking on Drumcliffe Road, Ennis, with her two children when she was approached from behind by three males. One grabbed her from behind and another tried to take her handbag and broke the strap in the process. The children both had mobile phones in their hands and one of the males took these and smashed them off the ground. While this was going on the third male was talking on a mobile phone. This was very traumatic for the mother and her two children. If anyone witnessed this incident or anyone that may have dash cam footage gardai are asking them to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065-6848100.

Clare businesses warned over email fraud

WITH digital fraud continuously on the rise, Clare gardai have warned businesses to be vigilant about a particular email scam. Business email compromise fraud, also known as invoice re-direct fraud, is where a fraudster sends an email to an individual or a business pretending to be a supplier and asks for an invoice to be paid immediately, usually to a new bank account because “they’ve changed bank”, etc. They provide a new IBAN and BIC code for this new account and often the target does not know that it has been a victim of a crime until sometime later when the legitimate supplier sends a reminder for invoice payment.  To do this, fraudsters might send an email with a spoof email address, a ‘spear phishing’ email (an email that looks like it’s from a trusted source), or use malware to take over a legitimate business email account and send an email from that. Gardai seek help with traffic collision after driver flees scene

CLARE gardai have appealed for witnesses to a traffic collision that occured on Monday of last week in Ennis. At 1.20am on Monday, March 21, a traffic collision occurred at the Tulla Road/Lifford Road roundabout and the second vehicle failed to remain at the scene. The driver of one car was travelling from Clonroad in the direction of the Tulla Road/Lifford Road roundabout intersection. The driver was taking the second exit at the roundabout when the offending vehicle which approached from the Lifford Road direction collided into her car. The only description available currently is that it was a black car. If anyone witnessed this collision or anyone has dash cam footage of it, they are asked to contact Ennis Garda Station on 6848100.

Thieves go flat out to steal BMW from Clare farmyard

GARDAÍ in Clare believe that thieves may have used a trailer to steal a BMW which had four flat tyres. Between 7pm on Saturday March 19 and 10am on Sunday morning last a black 523 saloon BMW registration number 99 CE 5663 was stolen from a farm yard in Cregard, Barefield. “This vehicle had four flat tyres and the owner believes that the car was not capable of being driven so it may have been taken away on a trailer,” says Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Triona Brooks. She urged anybody who may have seen anything to contact their local garda station.

Clare woman awoken in her bedroom by intruder

GARDAI are investigating a break-in to a house in a Clare village at the weekend in which the occupant was awoken in her bedroom by the intruder. At 11pm on Saturday, March 19, a woman in Crusheen was awoken in her home by a male in her bedroom. She asked him to leave and he did so immediately. Investigating Gardaí are interested in speaking to a man with a dark coloured beard who was seen on the Main Street in Crusheen village on Saturday night between 8pm and 12 midnight. Beware phony census enumerators, warn Clare gardai

GARDAÍ in Clare are warning about the potential for criminals to impersonate Census takers issuing security advice on how to identify legitimate enumerators ahead of Census 2022. “People should always be aware of the potential for ‘bogus callers’ calling to homes pretending to be from different organisations which could include impersonating a census enumerator,” says Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Triona Brooks. The 2022 Census will take place on the night of Sunday, April 3 with 5,100 enumerators delivering and collecting forms to and from every household in the country over ten weeks between March 2 and May 6. “Enumerators will call to every dwelling a number of times in an attempt to make contact with the householder, to deliver forms and explain about the Census. It is anticipated that enumerators will work mainly between 9am and 9pm on weekdays and weekends,” Sergeant Brooks explains. Luxury goods stolen from Clare home in burglary

A NUMBER of distinctive luxury items were among a haul taken during a burglary last week at a house in east Clare. Between 6pm and 7pm on Tuesday, March 1 two houses in the Ballyvally area of Killaloe were broken into. Entry was gained to both houses by forcing a rear window. A number of distinctive items was stolen from one of these houses – a brown Louis Vuitton handbag, a cream and gold Gucci handbag, a blue Chanel bag, gold Gucci earrings, cash in euros and US dollars and sports medals. Meanwhile on Wednesday evening in Kilnaboy three houses were targeted by burglars. Between 6pm and 10pm on Wednesday, March 2, three houses in the Kilnaboy area were broken into. The front door of a house in Bunnanaghat North was forced and all the rooms were ransacked and cash and jewellery stolen.
