Gardai say school threat “not credible” after assessment

Clare Champion Print Subscription

GARDAI have just released a statement saying that there is no danger to local schools, despite a threatening email that was sent overnight.

The Garda statement said, “Following initial assessment, Gardaí are satisfied that the security threat is not credible and there is no ongoing risk to the public. Gardaí are engaging with the affected educational establishments with regard to this incident.

“Enquiries are ongoing. No further information is available at this time.”

The email sent last night had claimed to be from a person in Sixmilebridge, who warned they were about to carry out a major attack.

It had said, “Tomorrow I am going to be carrying out one of the most prolific attacks in Irish history. I will be armed with multiple firearms, I have placed items around every school that has been included in this email, I will be targeting each and every school and I will be successful in my plan.”

Owen Ryan has been a journalist with the Clare Champion since 2007, having previously worked with a number of other publications in Limerick, Cork and Galway. His first book will be published in December 2024.
