CLARE camogie star Michelle Powell has been nominated for the PwC Camogie Soaring Stars team for 2022.

The Truagh-Clonlara star is contending for the full back slot against Ciara Donohue (Galway) and Niamh O’Leary (Cork).

Michelle is the first ever Clare player to be nominated for a Soaring Star. Her role in the Clare defence throughout the 2022 Premier Junior Championship was pivotal in Clare reaching the penultimate stage of the Championship.

In what is a busy week for the Truagh Clonlara player, Clare Camogie said it would like to congratulate Michelle on her nomination.

The shortlist has been compiled by a dedicated All-Star Nomination Committee, to celebrate the high performance and commitment of players throughout the 2022 Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Intermediate and Premier Junior Championship season.

All-Ireland Intermediate Champions Galway take prime position in the nominations of 36 players spread across 8 different counties. Players from Galway (11), Cork (7), Antrim (5),
Meath (5), Derry (3), Armagh (3), Clare (1) and Cavan (1) are featured in this year’s PwC Camogie Soaring Stars nominations.

The presentations of the awards will take place at a star-studded PwC Camogie All-Stars ceremony on November 26 in Croke Park.

Congratulating the nominees, Uachtarán Hilda Breslin said: “2022 was an exceptional display of athleticism, skill, hard work and determination from all players.

“I want to congratulate those who have been chosen among this distinguished list of nominees for the PwC Camogie Soaring-Stars and celebrate their individual performances, that contributed
greatly in what was a tremendous showcase of our game from start to finish.

“I wish to sincerely thank our new sponsor PwC for their support of our All-Stars Awards. All our nominees are truly deserving of the titles, and I look forward to celebrating with them on our Awards evening in Croke Park in November.”
