Huge turnout for Dave Foley testimonial at Dromoland By Seamus Hayes THE David Foley testimonial day on Friday was a huge success. After twenty years as the professional at Dromoland, Foley is leaving to take up a position in Scotland. The winners of the team event with an impressive 121 points were Majella and Ellie Cotgreave, Mary Anne Sheils and Moira Cunningham.. they had ten points to spare over John O’Shaughnessy, Tom O’Sullivan, Ellie and Tony Cotgreave who were two ahead of Nigel and Alex Frost. In fourth spot with 108 were Mick O’Shea, Michael Flannery, Barry Walshe and Don barrett while the fifth placed team comprised David Fitzgerald, Shay O’Vallaghan, Eoin Garrahy and Jeeves Kochhar and they had 105 points. Clare 0-26 Limerick 0-15 THE Clare hurlers produced their best 70 minute display of the 2018 season in obliterating Limerick in Cusack Park. They will now play Cork in the Munster final on July 1.   In a superb second half display, Clare outscored Limerick 0-13 to 0-6. They were sharper, more cohesive and much better balanced. Following a frantic first half, Clare led 0-13 to 0-9. Both teams lost a man to a straight red card in the 33rd minute when Limerick’s Tom Condon and Clare’s David Reidy were sent off.   Peter Duggan put over 0-7 in that half from frees and a 65, while Shane Dowling pointed 0-4 from frees for Limerick in a match played in front of a crowd of 18,802. Clare 0-8 Limerick 0-8 The first of three big Shannonside GAA derby games this weekend ended in the spoils being shared prompting many to ask if this result will be repeated at Cusack Park tomorrow when the senior and minor hurlers from both counties clash in crucial championship games. O’Garney park in Sixmilebridge hosted the clash of Clare and Limerick in this All-Ireland senior camogie championship tie this afternoon and at the end of sixty minutes play the honours were shared and both remain in the hunt for a place in the play off stage of the championship. Dromoland NIALL Cannon’s captain’s prize was played for at Dromoland at the weekend and John O’Donnell emerged as the winner, from Derek McCoy, with Fergus Cooney in third place. Former Clare hurler Alan Markham was fourth, followed by Darren Sherlock in fifth, Derek Ryan in sixth and John O’Grady in seventh. Jason O’Leary won the gross. The past captain’s prize was won by Martin O’Mahoney, while the over-18 handicap section winner was Philip Hehir. John Galvin WHEN Peter O’Connell’s first action as the new editor of The Clare Champion was to send me to Ballyvaughan to cycle 60km early on a Saturday morning, I feared for our future professional relationship. I don’t do mornings, particularly on bank holiday weekends. There were extenuating circumstances, as this was no ordinary cycle. It was a cycle led off by none other than the legendary Seán Kelly. Suddenly, I was interested. My brothers and I grew up through the era of the twin cycling supernovas. Kelly and Stephen Roche divided the spoils between them seemingly at will through the ’80s. While Roche won the big one, the Tour de France and got to meet Charlie Haughey on the Champs Élysées, in our house, it was the quiet man from Carrick who was the big hero. Although he started with the reputation of just being a sprinter, he became a consummate all-rounder, able to lead a breakaway or power …

Clare 1-23 Tipperary 1-21 THE Clare hurlers scored an incredible, breathtaking win over Tipperary in Semple Stadium on Sunday. Clare didn’t lead until 90 seconds from the end of five minutes of injury time. Tipperary had led 1-21 to 1-20 three minutes into injury time. It was Clare’s first Munster championship win over Tipperary since 2003 and means that next Sunday’s final round game, at home to table topping Limerick, will have a place in the Munster final at stake. If Clare win they will qualify for the final. They currently sit on four points, one behind Limerick, while Cork, who play Waterford next week, are also on four points. Peter Duggan who put over 0-15 in total, 0-13 from frees, was superb while Podge Collins also injected life and pace to the Clare attack.
