BROADCASTER Therese McInerney will launch her new album at The Westbridge in Miltown Malbay on Saturday, July 30 at 8pm.
Entitled ‘The Youth that Belongs to Miltown’, the album is a stunning collaboration with fellow Miltown native, Marian Curtin. Already garnering rave reviews, this exciting new album of traditional Irish fiddle and flute music comprises of selections of tunes deeply rooted in West Clare. It also features newer compositions paired with fine accompaniment.
Joining Marian and Therese are some of Ireland’s finest musicians including Aileen O’Callaghan on piano, Ger Naughton on bouzouki and bodhrán, Eimear Coughlan on harp and Sharon Howley on cello all sewn together beautifully in studio by the talented Martin O’Malley. The timeless blend of the flute and fiddle is enhanced by the addition of piano, bouzouki, bodhrán, harp and cello as well the added bonus of a few steps from Conor and John Fennell.
The talented young musicians were described by Harry Hughes of Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy as “excellent ambassadors for the local traditional music heritage”.
“Their forthcoming album will add greatly to the local repertoire and be an inspiration and source for young local musicians who are beginning to explore the possibilities of Irish traditional music,” he added.
Joanie Madden of Cherish the Ladies said: “Therese and Marian are phenomenal musicians individually, but as a duo, the music they make is gorgeous and moves the listener to another place. The respect and admiration they have for the pure drop coupled with the extensive research they do delving into the Clare Library and the Oidhreacht an Chláir (OAC) digging up gems of the local area and bringing these tunes to light, changing keys with clever variations and new arrangements is just simply lovely to hear.”
Musician and TV producer, Edel Fox said: “I feel immense joy listening to this exciting new album of tunes that are largely associated with the great legacy of musicians for our native West Clare.”
Admission to the album launch on Saturday, July 30, is free-of-charge.
