Clare Champion Print Subscription

Beaten finalists twelve months ago, Corofin have bounced back to win the intermediate football title. At sunny Hennessy Park in Miltown on Saturday afternoon, their ability to score goals proved too much for Kilmihil who led by the minimum margin at the mid point.

The winners goals came from John Keane (2), Luke O’Loughlin and Damian Ryan and sealed a merited win which has earned them the right to represent Clare in the Provincial championship and they will begin this campaign in November.

Meanwhile, Miltown St. Josephs booked their place in this season’s Clare senior football championshio final with a two goal victory over St. Breckans in the first of this year’s semi-finals, played in beautiful conditions at Cusack Park on Saturday afternoon.

A superb performance from Eoin Cleary played a key role in the Miltown side’s victory on a day when the Lisdoonvarna outfit made the better start racing into a 0-3 to 0-0 lead after ten minutes. However Cleary struck for he game’s first goal soon after this and when the half time whistle sounded the goal separated the sides with the score at 1-4 to 0-4 at half time.

Substitute Cormac Murray hit for the team’s second goal early in the second half and from here on St.Breckans were fighting an uphill battle.

In the final they will play either Clondegad or Cooraclare.

Elsewhere Clondegad moved a step closer to what their followers hope will be a senior and junior championship double when their juniors scored a 2-12 to 1-8 win over Ennistymon in the first of the junior semi-finals. They will play either Coolmeen or Kilmurry-Ibrickane in the final.

Kilmurry-Ibrickane were crowned senior B champions when they had an easy 4-22 to 1-2 win over St. Senans Kilkee in a one sides contest at Doonbeg. Both sides struggled for numbers, with neither having any substitutes.

In hurling, Meelick have secured their junior A status for next season thanks to a 3-20 to 1-10 win over Clooney-Quin at Cratloe.
