Intercultural family fun day in Shannon

THERE will be an intercultural family fun day at the Town Park on this Saturday, June 8. It will be run through a partnership between Clare County Council, Clare Mela, Fidget Feet, Creative Shannon and Shannon Tidy Towns. There will be a range of family entertainment on the day, with an animal farm, painting, scavenger hunt and a teddy bears picnic, going on all day. There will be two magic shows, one at 1.20pm and another at 3.50pm. Chinese Lion Dance Ireland will perform at 1.20pm and 3pm. Acts on the main stage will include traditional Irish storyteller Balor O’Brien, local dancers, traditional Nepalese music with Hiralal and Ramji Gaine, I4 Drummers, local rapper Wilzee and Fidget Feet Aerial Performances with Fire Acts. There will also be a drumming workshop and a cricket demonstration. Shakespeare in the park a dream outcome for Muse

Local company grateful for support from community and organisations for three-night production. CONFINED and restricted for so long, Muse Productions focused on what they could do rather than what they couldn’t, and gave an outdoor performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on last Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at the Town Park. Attendance each night was capped at 100, and thankfully the weather was dry. “It went really, really well. There was a great turnout, the weather held off for us, so yeah, we were blessed,” said Martin McNeilis, who played Oberon in the production, while his wife and three children also had roles in it. “Obviously Covid regulations allow for 50 indoors and 100 outdoors, so we cordoned off a section of the park and we only allowed 100 people in. “Some people passed by, or hung around, or stood by and watched a bit and moved on, but the audience was 100,” said Martin. “He threw a firework my way”-intimidation in Shannon Town Park

THERE have been complaints of anti-social behaviour at Shannon Town Park for months now, and recently a woman and her two-year-old son were left terrified after a firework was thrown in their direction. She also observed a resident being verbally abused by a teenager, apparently unconcerned for any consequences of his behaviour. Thirty-five year old Lucia Palacka has lived in Shannon for several years, and herself and her partner are raising their two-year-old son, Luka. On last Tuesday afternoon at 1.45pm Lucia was approaching the park with Luka in his buggy, when they came across a large group of young people. “There were a lot of kids, I don’t know how many, 15-20 maybe. They were probably at lunch and it would have been time for them to go back.
