THERE was more success for Clare at the presitigious Dublin Horse Show this Sunday. Following his brother Coen’s victory in the U-16 148cm final at the main RDS arena on Friday, Rhys Williams won the International 7 & 8-year-old competition. The PARC Stables rider took victory this afternoon aboard the 7-year-old Playboy JT Z (Presley Boy x Plot Blue). Last year, the Ennis brothers made showjumping history by becoming the first pair of siblings to be crowned leading international horse rider and leading International pony rider at the FEI International Jumping Nations Cup Youth Finals.

CLARE rider Coen Williams has won European gold as a member of the Irish Pony Showjumping U16 team at the FEI European Championships in Poland this weekend. Coen, of PARC Stables outside Ennis, added an individual bronze medal to his haul on Sunday, with his compatriots James Derwin and James Brennan taking gold and silver. The Irish team finished on a zero score to take the gold medal ahead of France who took the silver on four faults while Netherlands collected the bronze on 12 faults. The team consisting of Kilkenny’s Eoin Brennan with Glor Tire Cruise (ISH), Kilkenny’s James Brennan with MHS Glow (ISH), Sligo’s Paddy Reape with Valma De Fougnard, Clare’s Coen Williams with Saxton Freedam (ISH) and Westmeath’s James Derwin with Rincoola Babog (ISH) is managed by Gary Marshall. CLARE showjumper Rhys Williams and his Irish U18 team-mates have won a bronze medal at the 2022 FEI European Championships. Competing in 39 degree heat, in Oliva Spain, Rhys and Co won the bronze out of 18 nations with team manager James Kernan singling out the Clareman’s effort as the ride of the day. Rhys was adding the bronze to previous gold and silver medals he won at European level in 2018. The Irish Junior Showjumping team comprises Francis Derwin, Rhys Williams, Tom Wachman, Niamh McEvoy and Conor McLaughlin and are managed by James Kernan and sponsored by GAIN Equine Nutrition. They took the team bronze medal following an excellent final round performance which included an impressive clear from Rhys Williams aboard Cowboy Balou.
