For the fourth year in succession, the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience has exceeded the one million mark for visitors within a calendar year. The world-famous visitor attraction reached the figure on Friday last, August 11, exactly 11 days ahead of the date the figure was reached in 2016 and exactly 10 weeks earlier than when the milestone was first reached in 2014. The North Clare visitor attraction is now on track to exceed its record visitor total of 1,427,166 people in 2016. The Clare County Council owned attraction has undergone substantial investment in product and facilities in recent years while its position as a Signature Point along the 2,500km Wild Atlantic Way has contributed to its growing popularity. The President of Germany Joachim Gauck concluded a three-day state trip to Ireland this afternoon by visiting the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience. Councillor James Breen, Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, welcomed President Joachim Gauck to the council owned Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience and presented him with a photographic print of the Cliffs of Moher framed in local slate, designed by Irish Slate Crafts. Ms. Katherine Webster, Director of the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience, provided the German Head of State and the official delegation with a guided tour of the County Clare attraction. German visitors are the largest visitor group to the Cliffs of Moher after the USA with over 145,000 travelling to Ireland’s second busiest visitor attraction in 2014.

Visitor numbers at the Clare County Council owned Cliffs of Moher visitor attraction have increased by 12.5% during 2014 breaking the one million mark for the first time. Figures released reveal that visitor numbers have hit 1,075,000 for this year, representing an increase of over 115,000 visitors on the overall figure for 2013. 2014 marks the fourth successive year of increased visitor numbers to the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience. DESPITE the terrible storms which lashed the the West of Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience recorded a 6% increase in visitor numbers during the first four months of 2014. The tourist attraction saw overall visitor numbers grow from 167,605 in 2013 to 177,878 between January 1 and April 30. Visitor figures at the Cliffs were boosted by a 57% increase in visitors during the four-day Easter Bank Holiday Weekend, compared to the same period in 2013. “Considering the exceptionally poor weather conditions of January and February and the fact the peak tourist season is not yet upon us, we are very pleased with the visitor figures so far this year,” commented Katherine Webster, director of the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience. “We are delighted that visitor figures are up by 11,000 on the same period in 2013 especially considering we were forced to close the site to the public on numerous occasions earlier this year due to strong …
