Clare TD’s partner free to drive until November, despite ban

THE partner of former Sinn Fein TD, Violet Anne Wynne is free to drive until November at least despite receiving a two-year driving ban last month. This follows John Mountaine (40) formerly of Pella Road, Kilrush, Co. Clare, not appearing in court in Kilrush to press ahead with his circuit court appeal of the two year driving ban and the case has now been adjourned to November for hearing. At Ennis District Court last month, Judge Mary Larkin imposed the third driving ban on Mr Mountaine after his third conviction for driving with no insurance. Mr Mountaine has 16 previous convictions and they include two for driving with no insurance dating from June 2014 when Mr Montaine was banned from driving for two years and in 2012 when he received a one year driving ban. Clare TD’s partner misses court as he is ‘homeless in Longford’

THE partner of former Sinn Fein TD, Violet-Anne Wynne, John Mountaine was a ‘no-show’ in court this week as he is currently homeless and living in Co Longford. At Kilrush District Court, solicitor for Mr Mountaine, Patrick Moylan told Judge Mary Larkin his client’s whereabouts when explaining why he wasn’t in court to face seven alleged offences under the Road Traffic Act including allegedly driving with no insurance and driving without a licence last October. Mr Moylan said, “Mr Mountaine contacted me yesterday to say that he is in Longford and is homeless and doesn’t want to plead guilty.” Seeking a date for a hearing into the case, Mr Moylan told Judge Mary Larkin that Mr Mountaine’s defence “is based on the same argument we had before”. Clare TD’s partner fined for drugs and banned from driving

THE partner of Clare independent TD, Violet Anne Wynne has lost most of his teeth from severe epileptic seizures in the past. That is according to solicitor for John Montaine (40), Patrick Moylan who told a court that Mr Montaine has been seizure free for the past six years arising from him taking a cannabis derivative, THC oil. At Kilrush District Court, Judge Mary Larkin imposed a fine of €100 after Mr Montaine pleaded guilty to the illegal possession of cannabis at the family home at Pella Road, Kilrush, on February 11 last year. Judge Larkin also imposed a third driving ban on Mr Montaine after his third conviction for driving with no insurance. Clare TD’s partner pleads guilty to drugs and insurance charges

THE partner of newly independent Clare TD, Violet Ann Wynne has pleaded guilty to drugs possession, writes Gordon Deegan. At Kilrush District Court sitting in Ennis, solicitor for John Montaine (39), Patrick Moylan entered a guilty plea on behalf of his client to the illegal possession of cannabis at the family home at Pella Road, Kilrush on February 11 last year. Mr Moylan said that Mr Montaine was unable to come before the court as he currently has Covid-19. Mr Montaine uses cannabis for medicinal purposes and no evidence was provided to the value of the drugs seized and the facts around the seizure will be heard in court in June. Mr Moylan also entered a guilty plea on behalf of Mr Montaine to driving with no insurance while driving a 192 registered black Ford Grand C-Max at Decomede, Lissycasey, Co Clare on February 8 2021.
