Limerick man, Jason Carroll, 36 years, who had been missing from Nicholas Street in the city since December 16, has been located safe and well. On Monday, gardaí issued an appeal for members of the public to help them trace Jason. Today, Tuesday, the gardaí thanked al who has assisted them in their enquiries.

RTÉ’s Crimecall programme this week featured a renewed appeal by gardaí in Clare in a bid to discover the identity of a man, whose body was found at the base of the Cliffs of Moher four years ago. Inspector John Ryan from Kilrush said they had received some response to the appeal over the man’s identity, which gardaí in Ennistymon are now following up. Inspector Ryan has asked that anybody who might have any information about the deceased man’s identity or what had occurred towards the end of July 2010 to cause his death, however insignificant they might think it is, to contact Ennistymon Garda Station. The man’s remains were found by Doolin Search and Rescue on July 30, 2010. He was only wearing shoes and socks and was thought to have been in the water for about 10 days. GARDAI, fire fighters and paramedics have all responded to a fire affecting three apartments in Ennis this evening. They were called to the scene shortly after 5pm  with thick smoke billowing from three apartments close to the junction of O’Connell Street and Barrack Street. A Garda at the scene said that no one had been injured and no one had been in any of the apartments. Vehicles are being diverted away from the end of O’Connell Street closest to the Cathedral and there is currently no vehicular access to  Barrack Street.  

Gardaí launched a search operation this morning for the driver of a car involved in the two-car collision near Tulla, as he was believed to have fled the scene on foot. The driver of the other vehicle,a man in his sixties, who was seriously injured, was brought to University Hospital Limerick. Emergency services were called to the two-car collision at Knockadoon, on the main Tulla to Scariff Road, shortly before 7.30am.  The road was closed for a number of hours for a technical examination. A garda search for the missing driver of the second car was to no avail. However, a man later presented himself for treatment at Midwestern Hospital Ennis, and enquiries are being being made as to whether this was linked to the accident.  

AN Asian family living in Shannon’s Cúl na Gréine housing estate claim they are victims of racism, having been verbally abused, assaulted and having had their house egged many times over several years. They have blasted Clare County Council claiming they have failed to respond to numerous complaints and that the racism has come from the local authority, as well as those behind the direct abuse. One family member said that assurances they were given when they arrived have not been honoured and that incidents of racism were ignored by the local authority. “We are here for seven or eight years, since this estate was built. We were the first tenants here and when we signed the lease, we were given an assurance that if there was any anti-social behaviour, the people involved would be evicted. It was in the terms and conditions. We thought it sounded good, we were naïve, we didn’t know that council estates could be like …

A MAN who crashed his car while being pursued by gardai near Lissycasey was later arrested after taking to the fields. The incident happened near Lack on Thursday when gardai became suspicious of a vehicle traveling on the N68. When they proceeded after the car in an effort to stop it, the driver took off and turned down a country road towards Ballynacally. A short distance down the road, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed. He then abandoned the vehicle and tok to the fields leaving a pregnant female passenger behind in the car. However, the driver was arrested a short time later and taken to Ennis Garda Station for questioning. He was later charged and released on bail pending further investigation.

Gardaí investigating the disappearance of Adrian Folan from Athlone have sealed off an area close to a quarry near the Cliffs of Moher Garda Crime Scene Investigators are carrying out an examination in the area. “We cannot confirm the discovery of a body at this stage of the investigation,” a statement from the garda press office said. Mr Folan, who was last seen in Athlone town on the night of July 3, at approximately 11.40pm, is approximately 5ft 7” in height, has brown/grey hair, blue eyes and is of stocky build. He was wearing a grey coloured t-shirt, brown knee length shorts and sandals when last seen. The man in his 40s was arrested in Galway this morning and is detained at Galway Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí in Ennistymon  are investigating what has been described as a “rare” and “tragic” road traffic collision in which two motorcyclists were killed after they collided with one another at Lisdoonvarna on Thursday evening. It is understood that the motorcyclists were travelling in opposite directions on the Ennistymon Road, just outside Lisdoonvarna when the collision occurred at approximately 6.45pm. Both motorcyclists were pronounced dead at the scene, while a female pillion passenger was airlifted to Galway University Hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Gardai have sealed off the road for technical forensic examination and it is due to re-open later today. It is understood that both deceased motorcyclists are not Irish nationals. One garda described the collision as “tragic and freakish. You would rarely hear of two motorcyclists colliding head on with one another”.
