Crashes disrupt Ennis traffic

Two separate car crashes brought disruption to a sunny Sunday evening in Ennis. The incidents resulted in traffic being redirected while gardaí inspected the scenes. There were reports of a car being driving erratically around the time of the incidents, just before eight o’clock last night. Cars were struck at the Mill Road and Barrack Street. There were a number of occupants inside the car that was hit in the second crash. A man was subsequently apprehended by gardaí. On Friday night, a teenage boy was airlifted to hospital in Cork after he was struck by a car, as he cycled between Sixmilebridge and Cratloe. A man in his 30s remains in hospital after he was injured in a single car accident at Shannon Banks on Saturday night.

Gardai seek missing Whitegate man

Gardaí are seeking the public’s help in tracing the whereabouts of 25 year- old Kieran Hayes, who is missing.  He is a resident of Whitegate in East Clare and had been staying with a relative in Douglas in Cork City. Kieran was last seen on Monday, April 20 and his family are now very concerned for his well being. He is 6ft tall of slim build and has ginger receding hair. Kieran has a tattoo of a panther on his right shoulder and his name is tattooed on his right forearm. When last seen he was wearing a white jumper and light brown trousers. Flight diversion woman released from Garda care

AN 87 year old woman who was arrested following the diversion of a flight from Frankfurt to Toronto has been released from Garda care. It is understood that she spent a portion of last night at a local hotel and she is set to leave Ireland at some point today. Gardai don’t expect there will be any further action taken in relation to the matter. After having received reports of a disruptive passenger Gardai were on hand when the Air Canada flight on which she was travelling touched down at Shannon at around 8.20pm on Friday evening.

Galway girl located

Fifteen-year-old, Yulissa Stoica, who had been missing from her Galway home, has been located safe and well this morning (Thursday). The gardaí have acknowledged the support of everybody who helped them with their enquiries from when Yulissa was reported missing on Good Friday.

Body recovered from River Shannon

The body of a man has been recovered from the River Shannon near Ardnacrusha following a 12-hour long search and rescue operation. Emergency Services say the body is that of a man in his 50’s who was reported missing yesterday (Thursday) evening and was reportedly seen entering the water near Clonlara. The Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter, backed up by gardaí, fire service personnel and ambulance crews, last night conducted a search of a section of the River Shannon and the riverbank between Blackwater and Clonlara.

Woman dies after Hurler’s Cross fire

A woman was pronounced dead following a fire at a house in Firgrove at Hurler’s Cross in the early hours of this morning. The alarm was raised at around 1.30am and the emergency services were summoned. The woman was 70 years of age and she was pronounced dead shortly after 5am at the scene. Her name has not been released at the time of writing.

Wallace and Daly appear at Ennis District Court

WEAPONS have been routinely carried through Shannon by the US military, it was claimed at Ennis District Court on Tuesday, during a hearing into a case against TDs Mick Wallace and Clare Daly. During evidence, Irish Times security analyst, Tom Clonan played a recording taken from a plane at Shannon, which advised soldiers to leave their weapons on board. Also, a former Irish army officer warned that missiles that were brought through the airport on one occasion could have resulted in it being blown up, along with much of the adjacent Shannon Industrial Estate. Mr Wallace, 59, of Clontarf Road, Dublin 3, and Ms Daly, 46, of Elmwood Drive, Swords, Dublin, are accused of climbing a perimeter fence at Shannon Airport and entering a part of the airport to which they were not permitted on July 22 of last year, contrary to the Airport Bylaws of 1994. Woman robbed while walking home

KILRUSH gardaí are appealing for witnesses following an incident in West Clare on Friday night. A woman who was walking home alone in Benvoran, Kilmurry McMahon at approximately 10.30pm was confronted by two men in their late teens or early 20s on foot and had her bag stolen.
