Gardaí scupper cannabis cultivation

GARDAÍ targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Kilkee area,  yesterday discovered two separate cannabis cultivation operations. Gardaí searched a house in Lislanahan, Kilkee, where approximately 200 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €160,000  were discovered. A man and woman, both aged 23 years, were arrested and detained at Kilrush Garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. In the second operation, gardaí searched a property in Tullaroe, Kilkee, where approximately 300 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €280,000 were discovered. A man in his 50s was arrested and detained at Ennis Garda station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. These finds follow on from from a cannabis “grow” find in Carrigaholt area last week.

New Year’s Day Shots Fired in Ennis

GARDAÍ in Ennis are investigating after shots were  fired at an occupied house in Ennis on the morning of New Year’s Day. A firearm was discharged at Childers Road, Cloughleigh at approximately 5am. It is understood that although the house was occupied at the time no persons were injured during the incident. A man, aged 46, was arrested in connection with the garda investigation and was detained at Ennis Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 to 1998. He has since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Investigations are ongoing and anyone who can assist the gardaí with their enquiries is asked to contact them on 065-6848100.

€1m seized on Clare-Limerick border

GARDAÍ seized €1m in cash and arrested two people in Portrusha,  on the Clare Limerick border at the weekend. The operation, which is part of an ongoing investigation into organised criminal activity in the Limerick area, was carried out on Saturday afternoon. The cash was discovered when Gardai attached to the Divisional Drugs and Crime Units searched a property at Portcrusha near Castleconnell. Two males aged in their 50s and 40s were arrested and detained at Henry St Garda Station during the operation. On Monday, a male in his 50s remained in Garda custody where he is detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.  He can be held for up to seven days. The  second male in his 40s arrested has been released without charge.

Car with garda’s cloned number plates sought

AN ENNIS-based garda’s own car registration number has been cloned and is being used on a Volkswagen Golf, wanted in connection with a spate of burglaries in the county. The revelation came at a public meeting of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee and senior gardaí also confirmed that a speed van also had its plates cloned. The issue of cloned plates was raised by Councillor Tony Mulqueen. He said he was aware of members of the public who had received speeding fines in the post in respect of times and locations where they could not have been. He said it is “so easy to clone” registration plates and is “very upsetting” for people affected by this practice. Fireworks Seized in Planned Garda Operation

Gardaí in Shannon have seized a large quantity of fireworks under Operation Tombola. The assortment of fireworks have an estimated street value of up to €2,000 and were discovered and seized as part of an intelligence-led operation. Gardaí from the Shannon Detective Unit carried out a planned search of a house in the Rossbracken Housing Estate in the town on Wednesday afternoon and uncovered the fireworks. No arrests have been made but the investigation is ongoing.

Gardai seize €20,000 of cocaine in Shannon

Gardaí seized cocaine with an estimated street value of €20,000 from a house in Shannon on Tuesday evening. Following the seizure, which was made at a house in Finian Park, a 40-year-old man was arrested. The seizure was made as part of a planned operation targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Shannon area. The planned search of the house was carried out at approximately 8.30pm on Tuesday and during the course of the search, cocaine, with an estimated street value of up to €20,000 pending analysis, was discovered. A 40-year-old male was arrested at the scene and detained at Shannon Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. Meanwhile, a small amount of cannabis herb, worth €700, was also seized by gardaí in a separate follow-up search. At the time of going to print, the man was still being detained at Shannon Garda Station.
