Garda Alert: Tipperary man missing

Gardaí are renewing their appeal for the public’s help in tracing 37-year-old, David Wakefield, who is missing from his home at Mill Farm, Lorrha,in County Tipperary since 8am on Saturday morning last (December 20). David was last seen leaving the family home at Lorrha in his red Peugeot 307, registration number 02 D 741. There have being no further sightings. David is described as about 5’6″ tall, brown hair with a beard and blue eyes. When last seen he was wearing a blue jumper, blue denim jeans, blue fleece coat, combat boots and a blue hat. Gardaí and David’s family are concerned for his safety and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them. Sex offender failed to notify change of address

A 35-year-old sex offender, who has been living in the Ennis area, has appeared before the district court, having failed to comply with a requirement for him to notify a change of address with the gardaí. The defendant, who is currently of no fixed abode, appeared before Ennis District Court on Wednesday charged under the Sex Offenders Act 2001 with failing to notify a change of address between December 4, 2014 and December 14, 2014. Detective Garda John Casey outlined that the defendant was convicted in the Central Criminal Court on April 25, 2005 and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register. Following his release from his sentence on charges of sexual assault and rape of a male person, the defendant was required, under the Sex Offenders Act 2001, to notify gardaí of his home address. Three arrests follow Garda drug search

THERE was major Garda activity in West and North Clare earlier today (Tuesday) with gardaí carrying out drugs searches in Carrigaholt, Kilkee, Kilrush, Kilmihil, Cree, Miltown Malbay and Ennistymon. Three people were arrested in an search operation targeting the supply of heroin and cannabis in the region. Two of the arrests were in Kilrush and one in Ennistymon. Those detained are being questioned under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Searches started at 6am on Tuesday morning and have continued throughout the day.

Sutton to referee FAI Cup Final

Ennis man, Padraig Sutton will referee the FAI Ford Cup Final between Derry City and St Patrick’s Athletic, at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, November 2. For Sutton, it is his second major domestic final in 14 months, as he refereed the 2013 EA SPORTS Cup. He is looking forward to taking charge of a competitive game at the Aviva Stadium, having previously refereed Manchester City v Airtricity League XI in 2011 and Shamrock Rovers v Liverpool earlier this year. “Being appointed to referee your own domestic cup final is the greatest honour that can be bestowed upon an official so I am absolutely delighted and looking forward to refereeing in the Aviva Stadium,” said Sutton, who is a member member of An Garda Siochána. “I’m stationed at Roxboro Road in Limerick and everybody there has been hugely supportive of me over the years, as has my partner Claire,” said Sutton who has been on the FIFA list since 2011 …

Garda Ombudsman Investigates Parteen Crash

GSOC investigators are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a road traffic incident in the village of Parteen, in South East Clare in which three male pedestrians were injured on Thursday evening. A Hyundai Accent, which was being pursued by gardai after the car and its occupants were acting suspiciously in Doonass, County Clare earlier that evening. The car, which is believed to have been carrying two males, struck a parked car at the entrance to the Parteen Pitch and Putt course and three pedestrians. Two of the men who were in their 70s were injured in the incident and a further man was treated for shock. All three had played pitch and putt that evening and were crossing from Browne’s pub in the village at approximately 5pm, when they were struck. It is understood that one of the men in his late 70s has had a leg amputated following the incident. One male suspect was arrested close to the scene …

Five Clare People Among Garda Recruits

FIVE people from Clare are among the first group of students to begin training in the Garda College since 2009. The enrollment gathering, which also included students from neighbouring counties; 12 from Galway, six from Limerick and four from Tipperary, was addressed by the Minister for Justice and Equality Frances Fitzgerald and the Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan at a ceremony in Templemore today (Monday). The students will be undertaking a BA in Applied Policing. The programme was developed following comprehensive review of Garda training in 2009. The BA is an accelerated programme with the students carrying out three phases of learning, each of which is the equivalent of an academic year. It is accredited by the University of Limerick. Director of Training and Development in An Garda Síochána, Chief Superintendent Anne-Marie McMahon said, “The rigorous training that the students will be facing will equip them with the tools they need to provide the professional, efficient policing service that is expected by Irish …

Clare gardaí support safer communities

The Supporting Safer Communities campaign will run from September 23 to 30 and will be officially launched by the Commissioner of the Garda Siochána at the national ploughing championships in County Laois. The initiative is aimed at preventing crime, reducing the fear of crime and promoting community and road safety and will do this by engaging and raising awareness within communities. Supporting Safer Communities will be launched at Ratheniska  on Tuesday September 23, and in Clare Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Joe Downey will be highlighting the campaign. “Our primary focus during this campaign will be on burglary prevention and reduction. We hope to achieve this objective, by visible, accessible, and proactive involvement with the various community partnerships and crime prevention initiatives operating in their local areas. Gardai Warning to those Attending Junior Cert Disco

Clare students will be celebrating their Junior Certificate results on Wednesday and as the annual celebratory disco takes place that evening in Ennis, the gardaí have issued a warning to those attending and their parents. The event takes place in Ennis on Wednesday from 7.30pm to 10.30pm and it is an alcohol free disco confined to Junior Certificate students aged between 14 and 17 years of age. “A large crowd of students are expected to attend from the county and bordering counties. To ensure a safe and enjoyable night out for these students we the Gardai have the following advice to parents, transport operators and to the students themselves. Appropriate attire would be appreciated. Parents are to ensure that arrangements are in place for the safe arrival and departure of their children.
