  Gardaí have seized more than €50,000 worth of suspected cannabis in East Clare under Operation Tara following two separate searches on Thursday. Shortly before 4pm on Thursday, Killaloe Gardai assisted by members of the Clare Divisional Drugs Unit carried out a search of a premises at O’Brien’s Bridge. Suspected cannabis herb with an estimated street value in excess of €45,000 was seized. A man in his late twenties was arrested at the scene, and was subsequently detained at Ennis Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act, 1996. He has since been charged in connection with this seizure and will appear before a special sitting of Ennis District Court on Friday at 6pm. Meanwhile, shortly after 6.30pm Gardaí conducted a separate search operation at a house in Bridgetown, in South-East Clare. Drugs with an estimated street value of €250,000 have been detected and seized after Gardaí from the Clare Divisional Drug Unit stopped a car at Latoon South, Ennis on Friday evening, May 11. The detection was made as part of an ongoing intelligence led operation into drug trafficking in the Clare Division. During the course of the search of the car gardai discovered a quantity of cannabis herb (subject to analysis), the male driver a man in his 40’s was arrested and taken to Ennis Garda station where he is being detained under the provisions of section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 as amended. A follow up search was carried out at a house at Ballyclough Avenue, Ballinacurra,  Weston, Limerick by Gardaí a large quantity of cannabis herb was discovered. The approximate street value of the total amount of cannabis discovered was €250,000 (subject to analysis). Investigations are ongoing.

Gardaí from the Clare Divisional Drug Unit, based in Ennis, stopped and searched a car in Bunratty last night (Wednesday). The car was stopped shortly after 7pm and during the course of the search gardaí discovered cannabis herb with an approximate street value of €5,000 (subject to analysis). The driver of the car, a man (39 years) was arrested and is currently being detained at Ennis Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.
