Two buses broken into and cash taken in west Clare town

Gardai are appealing for witnesses or information after money was taken from two buses that were broken into in Kilrush. Some time between 8pm on May 6 and 6am on May 7, two buses that were parked on Frances Street, Kilrush were broken into. Entry was gained to one of the buses through an unsecure passenger door and entry was gained to the second bus by smashing the glass in the passenger door and the cash floats were stolen from both vehicles. If anyone was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious they are asked to contact Kilrush Garda Station on 9080550.

Roof bandit strikes again in Ennis

CLARE gardai are seeking assistance from the public after a number of premises were broken into over the past week. For the second time in two weeks, access was gained to a business premises on O’Connell Street Ennis by removing roof slates. This latest crime occurred between 12.30am and 12.40am on May 2. Entry was gained through the roof by removing slates and an internal partition wall and a number of items were stolen. In west Clare, a house in Derrymore, Lahinch, was entered and a sum of money in coins and cash was stolen. This crime took place between 8am and 3pm on Tuesday, April 26 last. In Kilrush, meanwhile, between 6pm on Friday, April 29 and 8.30am the following morning the front door of a cabin located on a building site in Vandaleur Gardens, was forced and a Milwaukee Jig Saw, Milwaukee Angle Grinder and a Milwaukee Impact Driver were stolen. Gardai urge caution in meeting online acquaintances in person

IN the wake of the recent murders in Sligo, gardai have issued advice to the public in general when speaking with or intending to meet up with persons they have met online. People should wait until they feel comfortable with an individual before revealing their phone number, place of work or address, they advise. Get a face picture from the person you intend to meet. Be very cautious of a person who doesn’t share a recent face picture with you, particularly after you have shared yours. If they don’t want to share a face picture, consider asking them to go on a live video call (many apps have this option built in so you don’t have to share your mobile number). Ask for their social media handles; do you any have friends in common on Instagram or Facebook? Be wary of new accounts with low follower count and few posts. Burglar removes slates to gain access to business premises

A BURGLAR went to great lengths to gain access to a business premises in Ennis at the weekend. In the early hours of Saturday morning, April 16, at approximately 1.04am the alarm was activated at the business premises on O’Connell Street. When they key holder checked the premises at 1.30am, he discovered that entry had been gained to the shop by removing slates on the roof and forcing entry through the ceiling slabs. A quantity of electronic equipment had been stolen. Gardai are appealing for anyone with information on the crime or who may have been in the vicinity at the time and seen something suspicious to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065-6848100.

Gardai seek witnesses to ‘very serious assault’ in Ennis

GARDAI are seeking witnesses to a very serious assault that took place last week at Francis Street in Ennis. At 2.20pm on Monday April 11, a black car (Opel Insignia) bearing false plates 02 D 69360 travelled from the Clonroad direction down Francis Street. It stopped outside Tesco and the boot was opened, it continued down Francis Street and reversed into the private car park on the town side of a premises opposite Causeway link road. Five hooded males exited the car armed with weapons and went into a business premises where they seriously assaulted a male. They ran back out to the car, got in and the car turned left onto Francis Street and went in the direction of Clonroad. It is unknown where it went from there. The man received serious injuries to his head and arms and received treatment at University Hospital Limerick. Drugs worth over €1.34million seized near Clare Limerick border

DRUGS with an estimated street value of €1.34 million have been seized following searches in the Clare and Limerick border area. Gardaí attached to the Limerick Divisional Drug Unit, supported by Gardaí from Mayorstone, Regional Dog Unit and members of the Defence Forces, carried out a number of searches this friday, April 15, in Corbally and Clonlara as part of Operation Tara, targeting the distribution of controlled drugs in the Limerick area. During the course of one search, Gardaí recovered heroin, with an estimated street value, subject to analysis, of €1.34m. No persons were arrests during the course of the search and the drugs will now be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. A further search took place at a separate location and Gardaí seized €12,500 in cash. A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene of this search and was taken to Henry Street Garda Station where he is currently detained pursuant to Section 4, Criminal …

Gardai probe alleged arson incident in Ennis

Gardaí in Ennis are investigating a suspicious fire which caused extensive damage to a house in the town on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred at around 3pm at the property at Gordon Drive in the Cloughleigh area of Ennis. Two units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a domestic fire at the address. Several Garda units including members of the detective branch also responded to the multiple calls made to the emergency services. On arrival at the scene, fire crews found that that front door and sitting room window were both ‘well alight’. Fire crews set about tackling the blaze and quickly established there was no in the house at the time. It’s believed the house was targeted with petrol bombs which destroyed both the front door and window and caused fire damage inside. Clare woman stung as cash withdrawn in roubles from Revolut

A LARGE sum of money was taken from a Clare woman’s account and put into a Revolut account in India according to gardaí. In light of this latest scam, gardaí in Clare have again issued advice to help prevent people becoming victims of frausters. The woman had received a call from a man purporting to be from Amazon Prime who told her that to continue her account with them that she needed to pay €80. He convinced her to download a number of apps on her phone, two of which were Revolut. She later discovered that a large sum of money had been taken from her Bank of Ireland account and placed into the Revolut account and withdrawn in roubles in India.
