Second win for minors

Clare   3-7     Tipperary    1-5
CLARE secured their second win of this year’s Munster Minor Football Championship campaign when they overcame Tipperary in Bansha on Easter Monday.

A nine-point margin might seem like a comfortable victory but Clare made things very difficult for themselves through their own wastefulness in front of goal.

Clare started well against the breeze and were three points to the good when Tipperary equalised with a soft goal. Clare pushed ahead again and despite their poor shot selections in front of goals, led by a point at the break. Aided by a fair breeze, Clare dominated the second half but their malaise of missed scoring chances continued. However, they were never in danger of losing against a disappointing Tipperary side.

Clare had goals from Gráinne Nolan, Orla Devitt and substitute Nollaig Blake, while Niki Kaiser, Katie Connole and Chloe Moloney also got on the scoresheet.

Two wins from two is very encouraging, especially as the feeling is that this team has yet to reach its full potential.  Following the senior team’s victory in Waterford on Sunday, this was a very good Easter weekend for Clare ladies’ football. The minors play Waterford in their next game.

Clare: Orlagh Kennelly; Róisín Considine, Amy O’Brien, Gráinne Harvey; Joanne Howley, Marie Foran, Orlaith Lynch; Emer Hillary, Aisling Corbett; Katie Connole (0-1), Niki Kaiser (0-1), Orla Devitt (1-1); Carla Behan, Jenny Ryan, Gráinne Nolan (1-2, 1f).
Subs: Chloe Moloney (0-2) for C Behan (25 min), Nollaig Blake (1-0) for Orla Devitt (inj, half-time), Sinéad O’Keeffe for Róisín Considine (half-time), Karen Roche for Niki Kaiser (inj, 40 min) and Sinéad Considine for Jenny Ryan (50min).
