Ennis date for Alzheimer walk

The people of Clare are being urged to get behind this year’s Alzheimer’s Memory Walk as plans are announced for an event in Ennis later this month.
The fifth annual Alzheimer’s Memory Walk takes place nationwide on Sunday, September 22. Set to be the largest Memory Walk to date, Fiona Staunton from The Alzheimer Society of Ireland’s Ennis Centre is urging the people of Clare to register now and walk with her on the day for the Clare Memory Walk at 12 noon in Ennis’ John O’Sullivan Park, Lees Road.
Speaking ahead of the event Fiona commented, “Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is special because it brings people together, allowing us to share memories and stories. This year, I will be walking for my family members who are living with dementia, those who are no longer with us, and all the people I have had the privilege to know since I joined The Alzheimer Society of Ireland 16 years ago.
“I would encourage everyone who can, to register now at memorywalk.ie to join me at John O’Sullivan Park, Lees Road, Ennis on September 22.
“Let’s walk to support, remember, and honour those affected by dementia. Together, we can make a difference.”
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland are urging people to show their backing for the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, supported by Payzone.
Those who register online will receive an Alzheimer’s Memory Walk Participant Pack including t-shirt and a special pack of Forget Me Not flower seeds to sow at home to help create an annual memory each time the flowers bloom.
The Memory Walk honours, remembers, and celebrates the 64,000 people in Ireland living with dementia, along with their families and carers. It also cherishes the memory of those who are no longer with us. In 2023, 3,500 walkers participated in Memory Walk and raised over €120,000 which helped fund vital services for people with dementia, including Daycare, Daycare at Home, Family Carer Training, Social Clubs, Cafés, and a National Helpline.
Those who take part are also encouraged to share their Memory Walk experience on social media using #ASIMakingMemories #ASIMemoryWalk2024 #LetsWalkTogether.
