Clare GAA PRO Anne Hayes admitted at the county convention to not having any control of up to four Clare GAA social media accounts on Instagram and Facebook.
In her first report to convention as Clare GAA PRO, having been elected in April 2022, the Lissycasey native outlined, “We would have liked to be in control of Clare GAA Instagram and the numerous Clare GAA Facebook pages however we are unable to get access or to find out who is involved in these.”
Highlighted by Coiste na nÓg Chairman PJ McGuane, the Cooraclare clubman enquired, “Who has control to those social media pages pertaining to Clare GAA and why isn’t it under the control of the PRO?”
In response, Clare GAA Head of Operations Deirdre Murphy said that the matter “had been engaged with the various social media platforms in some cases, individuals”.
Backing up her claim, PRO Hayes explained, “While we would love to have access to all the media, we do not unfortunately have it.”
“We have access to the Twitter but we haven’t access to the Clare GAA Instagram page, we don’t know who has it and and therefore we can’t get it back.”
“There are a lot of names bandied about as to who controls it but we would ask whoever does have it to give it back to the communications committee.
“There are three different Facebook pages out there, two Clare GAA pages and one GAA Clare and we haven’t access to any of the three of them unfortunately.
“We know who has access to one of those accounts but as of yet we haven’t been handed any log-in details.
“As a communications committee, we thought about putting up another page but we would then have four and it would be very confusing so we didn’t.
“So we’re still appealing to the people who have them to return them and I believe the man who has the Instagram page is in this room tonight so maybe by giving him a little bit of a nudge, he might return it to the Clare GAA Communications Committee.”
