SOCCER is a tool for tackling obesity and social problems, this week’s meeting of Clare County Council heard.

THE Golden Vale county community games hurling and futsal finals will take place this weekend while a number of areas across the county will hold their athletics finals as the deadline nears by which all finals must be completed ahead of the county finals.

With 300 athletes taking part, there were many star performances at Lees Road last weekend. Rachel Clancy, St John’s, set a personal best in the high jump U-14 with a leap of 1.47m and she also took gold in the 1500m.

The annual Miltown Malbay Parish National School sports day was held in damp conditions at Miltown Malbay football field with all schools taking part.
