Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon travelled to Presentation Secondary School in Thurles last week to take part in the all-Ireland second year C basketball play-offs.

It was announced at a reception in Adare last Thursday that two-time Major champion Angel Cabrera, of Argentina and rising US star Nick Watney will be in the field in the JP McManus Invitational Pro-Am at Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort, on July 5 and 6.

Cyclists from Clare are being encouraged to take part in this year’s Co-operation Ireland Maracycle, which is returning after an absence of 12 years. If you are a keen cyclist or want to take up a challenge, then this event could be suitable for you. This event will take place over the weekend of June 26-27 and the return route between Belfast and Dublin will cover just over 200 miles.

There was another historic win for Clare as the 40×20 handball season drew to a close over the weekend with the last of this year’s adult All-Ireland finals.

BOTH Clare Junior Cup semi-finals have been rescheduled for this weekend, which will also see the playing of the Youths Cup semi-finals, which are scheduled for Monday.

Hermitage A 4    Sporting Ennistymon 1HERMITAGE were crowned Division 1 champions at the Fair Green on Sunday when they defeated Sporting Ennistymon.

CLARE Sports Partnership and Clare Athletics Association held race number four in their fun run series in Carron with over 70 competitors participating in the 5km event. With the first (1k) all down hill the leaders went through this point in 3mins.05secs and Eimear Power (Sportsworld) was leading this big field with Michael Shannon (Kilnaboy), Damian Roche (Kilmurry-Ibrickane/North Clare), and Eugene Moynihan (Marian) all in close pursuit.

CLARE jockey Derek O’Connor reached another landmark in his remarkable career when riding his 600th point-to-point winner aboard John Brassil’s 5/1 shot Carrigerry in the first division of the mares’ winners’ race at last Sunday’s Duhallow Foxhounds’ fixture at Dromahane, County Cork.
