Clooney-Quin on top in high scoring-tie

  Clooney-Quin 2-18  Wolfe Tones 3-11 IN a high-scoring Clare Champion Cup tie at Shannon on Thursday evening, Clooney-Quin came out on top. The game marked the return to action of Patsy Keyes who lined out at full-back for the Shannon side. Keyes retired from competitive hurling in 2009 and earlier this year, agreed to take on the role of manager with Wolfe Tones.As the Shannon club continue to struggle with numbers, having lost a lot of players to emigration, the Limerick native bowed to pressure and returned to action last weekClooney-Quin had a dream start with a Martin Duggan goal inside half a minute. Turnpike seal first-division place

Turnpike Rovers 2  Kilrush Rangers 1 (after extra time) TURNPIKE Rovers retained their first division status for the coming season when they defeated Kilrush Rangers in a promotion/relegation play-off at the County Grounds last week.Kilrush Rangers enjoyed the better of the first-half exchanges and led at half-time through a Robert Carey penalty. They had chances to stretch that lead but failed to avail of them.Five minutes into the second half, Ian McMahon scored for the ’Pike to level the game and from here to the finish of normal time, they had the better of the exchanges but failed to take the lead.In the fifth minute of extra time, the ’Pike were awarded a penalty when David McMahon was judged to have been taken down in the area. Clare will be represented in a variety of sporting and cultural events by 198 competitors. Woodstock Pierce Purcell team into Munster semi-finals

The Woodstock Pierce Purcell team has qualified for the Munster semi-final, which will be held at Limerick Golf Club on July 17.In last week’s North Munster final, they had a 3½ to 1½ win over Limerick Golf Club.Jimmy Kelly and Declan Coote won their match on the 16th with number two pairing Jason Considine and Brian Mulcahy winning on the 14th. Frank Doherty and Martin Dormer lost their match on the 16th while Seamus Kelly and Micheál Talty were one up when they were called in on the 18th. The fifth pairing of Mike Kelly and Liam McInerney won their match on the 15th. Meanwhile, in the Wednesday open singles, Colm Mullen (8) was the winner with 39 points from William Hannon (13), East Clare who had 38 points with Liam O’Connor (12) in third spot with 37 points.
