Woodstock Pierce Purcell team into Munster semi-finals

The Woodstock Pierce Purcell team has qualified for the Munster semi-final, which will be held at Limerick Golf Club on July 17.
In last week’s North Munster final, they had a 3½ to 1½ win over Limerick Golf Club.
Jimmy Kelly and Declan Coote won their match on the 16th with number two pairing Jason Considine and Brian Mulcahy winning on the 14th. Frank Doherty and Martin Dormer lost their match on the 16th while Seamus Kelly and Micheál Talty were one up when they were called in on the 18th. The fifth pairing of Mike Kelly and Liam McInerney won their match on the 15th.
Meanwhile, in the Wednesday open singles, Colm Mullen (8) was the winner with 39 points from William Hannon (13), East Clare who had 38 points with Liam O’Connor (12) in third spot with 37 points.
Martin Dormer (19) won the May medal with 66 nett from Liam McInerney (14) with 67 nett and Ross Darmody (10) with 67 nett. Tony Nugent (4) won the gross with 74.
The captain’s (Eugene Quinn) fourball will be the competition this weekend while the president’s (Jimmy Kelly) prize will be played for over the bank holiday weekend.
Timesheets will operate for both competitions.
The winners of the Australian Spoons competition were Maura Umlawski and Jenny McElhinney with 33 points. They will represent the club in Nenagh on June 20.
The monthly medal will be played for this week, with the draw on Sunday at 11.50 sharp. Entry for the president’s prize is posted in the locker room and the tee is reserved for ladies on Sunday, June 5 from 1 to 2pm.

Shannon

Shannon hosted the Irish Amateur Close Championship last week, when the course proved to be the winner, with none of the cream of Irish amateur golf able to break par for their aggregate score over the four days.
There was much praise from players and GUI officials for general manager Mike Corry, course supervisor Pat O’Rourke and the course staff for the excellent condition of the course.
Portstewart’s Paul Cutler emerged victorious with a two over par total of 290.
The men’s May medal will be the competition this weekend while the ladies will play for the PGA tankard.

Spanish Point

With Spanish Point’s first round in the JB Carr Diamond Trophy due shortly against the winners of the Lahinch and Woodstock match, three members of the panel are showing good form and figuring in recent single events.
A large number of players entered for the second golfer of the year competition, which was played in singles stroke format and despite the windy conditions, scoring was good. In first place was Christy Mohally (16) with 63 nett, (par 66), followed by Michael Hillery (14) with 64 nett and Fergal Hehir (14) with 65 nett.
The open seniors last week was won by Brendan Reddan (15) with 35 points. In the David McCarthy Memorial nine-hole team of three competition, Eoghan O’Loughlin (4), Geraldine Reddan (25) and Kathleen Twomey (28) were the winners with six-under gross 22.15nett.
In second place were Paidi McGough (13), Jim Dowling (18) and Joe O’Rourke (20) with 25.75 nett followed by Brendan Sexton (14), Gerry O’Loughlin (18) and Fergal Hehir (14) with 28.08 nett.
In last weekend’s Scotch foursomes, Michael Hillery (14) and Joe O’Rourke (20) won with 43 points.
This weekend, there will be a golfer of the year singles ­Stableford competition while practice for the upcoming Jimmy Brien competition continues this Thursday at 6.15pm under manager Brendan Reddan.
The past captains/presidents’ competition will be on June 4 and the timesheet begins at 10.30am.

Kilrush

Lucy Blake (35) was the winner of the ladies’ competition at Kilrush last week with 62 nett from Mary Bolton (24) with 63 nett.
They were followed by Geraldine Burke (23) with 64 nett and Margaret Donnelly (21) with 65 nett. Niamh Whelan (13) won the gross with 79 while the nines were won by Ailish Lorigan (16) with 32 and Kathleen O’Brien (27) with 33.5.
In the Friday mixed, the winners were Finbarr McMahon, Mick Lane, Mary McNamara and Mary Collins from Pat Shannon, John Normoyle, Geraldine Burke and Agnes Shannon.
The open singles on Sunday was won by Tony McMahon (18) with 43 points from
Finbarr McMahon (15) with 34 points
This Sunday, May 29, the junior, intermediate and minor scratch cups will be played for.
Meanwhile, members are reminded that the draw for the Glynn Cup Foursomes Matchplay is made and details are on display in the clubhouse

Gort

The men’s fourball competition at Gort at the weekend was won by David Kehoe and Pat Flanagan with 41 points from James Fahy and Colin Whelan with 40 points. In third spot were David Gillane and Niall Gillane with 40 points.
In the Monday open singles, Jason McLynn was the winner with 36 points from Tony Curran on 34 points and Ray Quinn on a similar score. The gross was won by Enda Cradock with 29 points.
There will be an 18-hole men’s singles golfer-of-the-year competition this weekend while the weekly open singles will continue on Monday.
In the ladies’ 18-hole fourball in aid of the blind, Mary Walsh and Bridie Fahy were the winners with 44 points from Pat Wynne and Ann Jordan on 43 points.
Last week’s ladies’ 18-hole stroke competition was won by Phil Mulkerrins with 71 from Josie Collins on 72 and Marie Hannon Healy on 74. Bernie Diskin won the gross with 87.
This weekend, the ladies will have a singles Stableford competition.

Ennis

Ennis seniors hosted the Teresa Howard Memorial competition last Thursday when 81 members played. The winner with 44 points was Charlie McEnery from Frank Landy on 39, Jim Scully on 38, Johnny Stack on 37, Pat Cahill on 37, Ned Ryan on 36, Richard Pyne on 36, Don Ryan on 36 and Tom Fox on 35.
Thirty-five members played in the ladies’ 14-hole competition, which was won by Phil Butler with 29 points from Mary Leahy on 28, Mary McMahon on 27, Eileen Corry on 26, Deirdre Molyneaux on 26, Nuala Guinan on 25, Aideen Considine on 24 and Bernie Brooks on 24.
In the men’s three-Ts singles competition at the weekend, Victor Coote was the winner with 41 points from Leo Herbert on 40, William Moloney on 39 and Andrew Hester on 38. Noel Whelan won the gross with 31 points.
In the ladies’ section, Kitty Morris and Cora Kerins won the Australian Spoons competition with 37 points from Nuala Guinan and Mary Leahy on 36.
The winner of the ladies’ three Ts Stableford competition was Liz Kelly with 41 from Kitty McNicholas on 37 and Kitty Morris on 35. Valerie Hassett won the gross with 24.
Mary McMahon won the captain’s prize to the ladies with 37 points from Kitty Morris on 36, Mary Walsh on 33 and Nuala Guinan on 33. Maura McNicholas won the gross with 24 points.
The ladies’ seniors competition week two competition was won by Nora Kelly, Mary Leahy and Kate O’Ceallaigh with 51 from Alice Darcy, Berna Connolly and Carmel Verling with 53.
In third spot, also with 53, were Frances O’Reilly, Anne Kehoe and Claire Kennelly.
In competition number three, the winners were Mary Walsh, Joan Malone and Joan Murphy with 47 from Alice Darcy, Nora Kelly and Ann Daly on 48. In third place, also with 48, were Ann Casey, Bernie Brooks and Alice Darcy and they were followed by Brid Kelly, Carmel Verling and Pat Leacy on 49.

Dromoland

The weekend 18-hole singles Stableford competition at Dromoland was won by Brian Sheedy with 70 nett from Tony Byrne on 71 and Brian McMahon on 72. Donie Hassett won the section for over 18 handicaps while the junior section winner was Killian Howard with 72 nett. There will be a foursomes competition this week.
Entries are now being taken for the Dromoland Claret Jug competition.
In the ladies’ Australian Spoons competition, the winner was Julie Fitzgerald from Sheila Kent with Yvonne Shanahan in third spot followed by Cora O’Toole. Suzanne McConway won the gross while the winner on day one was Sandy Smith, with Mairéad Bergin winning on day two.

Portumna

In the men’s 18-hole masters competition, a golfer-of-the-year event at Portumna, Kevin Daly (28) was the winner with 41 points from Mickey Glynn (18) with 40 points. In third spot with 39 points was Michael Coniry (18) with Des Clarke (19) winning the seniors section with 30 points. The gross was won by JP McLoughlin (2) with 35 points.
In the ladies’ masters 18-hole stroke competition, the winner, with a great score of 70, was Suzanne Corcoran (3), from Lillian Austin with 71, Ena Moran with 72 and Mary M Cahalan with 75. The gross was won by Carmel Cunningham with 92.
In the Monday open, the winner was Andrew McCarthy (15) with 38 points from Sean Cleary (3) with 37 points and Shane Duffy (19) with 37 points. The gross was won by JP McLoughlin (2) with 33 points.
The closing date for entry to the Murphy matchplay and the foursomes has been extended until next Sunday.
The popular husband-and-wife competition will take place this weekend while there will be an open ladies and gents’ fourball over the June bank holiday weekend.

East Clare

Last week’s men’s singles competition at East Clare was won by Donal Fleming (28) with 39 points from Gerry Nugent (15) on 37 points with third spot filled by Ludwig Pfutzner (20) with 36 points.
Ger Hogan (11) won Thursday’s open singles with 40 points from Val Donnellan (9) with 37 points.
In last week’s men’s seniors’ competition, the winners were John Farrell, John Stack and Tom Moloney from Flan Mullane, Jackie McHugh and Michael Drew.
The winner of the ladies’ senior outing was Brigid Minogue from Sue Casey with Noreen Ryan in third spot followed by Bernie Bohan.
The ladies’ ­intermediate team of Mary Mannion, Heather Cullen, Mairead Toomey, Siobhán Shanahan and Helen Aherne beat Dromoland in Lahinch to secure a place in the next round.
The minor team of Terry Mulvihill, Mary Beatty, Evelyn Skehan, Trish Browne and Mary Brennan were also victorious at Lahinch when they beat Shannon.
The Challenge Cup team of Catherine Murphy, Deirdre Cooney, Joan Kinsella, Mary Collins and Pat Williams were narrowly beaten by Kilrush.
This week, the ladies will play the Australian Spoons competition on Saturday while they will have an 18-hole singles on Sunday, when the draw will be at 12 noon.
The men will have an 18-hole singles Stableford competition.

Lahinch

Thomas Glynn (14), Old Conna was the winner of the men’s open singles Stableford competition at Lahinch last Thursday with 30 points from Ian Morrisson (3) on 29 points and Desy Haughton (8), St Margaret’s, with 29 points.
Olivia Lucas (10) was the winner of the ladies’ singles Stableford competition on the Castle course on Sunday with 33 points.

Sixmilebridge

The Sixmilebridge Society outing to East Clare last week was won by Mike Corbett from Kevin Whelan with Johnnie McInerney in third spot.
The nines were won by Bobby Deegan and John Collins while the category prizes were won by Chris Wason and Johnnie McInerney.

Clarecastle

Clarecastle Golf Society will hold its next outing at Ennis next Monday. The first tee has been reserved from 2.30pm. A timesheet will operate on the day. Members and guests intending to play should text their preferred tee time to 086 3246015.

Bridgetown

Roscrea was the venue for an outing for the Bridgetown Society last Saturday when the overall winner was TJ Burns with 37 points from Dominic McArthur on 33 points and Tom Buckley on 32 points.
Category A was won by Tom O’Shaughnessy on 32 points from Joe McArthur on a similar score.
Paudie Murray won category B with 28 points from John Daly on 20 points while Mike Leonard won category C with 26 points.
The nines were won by Tony Fitzgerald and Ollie McCoy with Tom Buckley winning the prize for nearest the pin
The society’s next outing will be to East Clare on June 25 when the tee will be available from 10am to 11.30am.

Pitch and Putt

Pacelli Darcy from Bruff won the Clare Road Scratch Cup on Saturday. Liam Donovan from the same club was in second place with Kenneth Kerin from the host club in third position.
In the intermediate section, John Cunningham, Parteen, was the winner from his clubmate Anthony Flynn.
The winner of the junior title was Michael Kerin from the Clare Road with Gareth Kerin in second place.
Helen Daly from Cill na Mona won the ladies’ competition.
Mark Ryan from Bruff won the award for the best 36 while the final 18 prize was won by Marty Fawl and Declan Sheedy.
In Sunday’s competition at the club, Declan Sheedy was the winner of the senior section with Niall Reynolds winning the intermediate prize and Gareth Kerin taking the junior title from Michael Kerin.
