Battle of the bands reaches climax in Ennis

SOME of the best young bands in Clare will perform in Ennis next weekend at the finals of Clare Youth Service’s county-wide music competition.
The finals will take place in Club Red upstairs in May Kearneys this Saturday.  A strictly drug-and-alcohol-free event, the under 21s competition will highlight the enormous talent amongst local young bands and musicians, as the four finalists prepare to demonstrate why their sounds are champion in the region.
Last October, the preliminary rounds of the CYS Music Competition saw four young acts emerge as successful competitors in the upcoming finals, each with their own unique style, sound and influence; Eoghan & Aoife, Sins of the World, the Mustang Hobo and 39 Shots.
Expect a varied range of genres, from swamp funk to death metal, right through to power pop.  Each act will have to perform four tracks on stage, with at least two of these being original compositions.
The bands will be marked on a number of categories, including stage-presence, originality and musical skill.  Shannon’s metal juggernaut Censura will be special guests on the day, providing the loud mid-show entertainment while the judges make their final decisions.
The members of the CYS Music Project have been busy around the clock organising all the relevant little details.  Judges Nicky Brennan, Eoin Judge, Anthony Hehir, Graham Keane and Pat McMullin have all stated that they felt the standard of the qualifying rounds were extremely high, so the pressure is now on the young bands to hone and sharpen their stage shows to impress on the big day.
Members of the CYS Music Project will also be highlighting their ongoing projects and services on the day, with the inclusion of an all encompassing information booth.
Prizes for the competition include a number of gift vouchers for the famous music store Thomann, a selection of individual trophies and more.
