SHANNON group Muse Productions are to stage Forever Plaid at the Hope Cafe this week. Director Martin McNelis said that it is a very interesting production, which few people will have seen before. “It has a really small cast, there’s only four in the cast and two musicians. It’s very much a case of us trying to do something different. Obviously people are used to the large scale musicals or even plays, but it’s very rare that you get to see something like this, where it’s a small cast musical in a small venue.” Youth will have its fling through the show. “We’re trying to give opportunities to as many young people as we can. There are four young guys in the cast, they are playing a barbershop quartet. Then as musicians we have Shannon Hegarty, who is a young, up and coming, Cork School of Music graduate. We also have my own daughter Cliodhnna, she’s the chorus mistress, she …

MUSE Productions are in the final stages of rehearsals for their musical ‘Our House’, which will be performed at St Patrick’s Comprehensive from November 2-5. Our House is based on the music of Madness, the English ska band who achieved huge success in the late 1970s and early ‘80s. Martin McNelis is one of the founding members of Muse and is directing Our House, a musical he is very enthusiastic about. “It’s a wonderful, young musical and that’s probably what attracted us to it. We have a lot of young people in Shannon who have come out of Eclipse stage school and we wanted to do something that would utilise all that talent. “This is a show that has a young cast, but it’ll also appeal to an older age group because the music of Madness is very well known and holds a lot of special memories for people.” It is the story of young Joe Casey and a life-altering …

MUSE Productions in Shannon return to action following their production of Waiting for Godot earlier this year and make a move towards the vaguely ridiculous and spooky with Wyrd Sisters. The production, which will be a special treat for those getting into the Hallowe’en spirit, is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Terry Pratchett. It was adapted for the stage by Stephen Briggs and is a parody of Macbeth. Running for five nights at the Oakwood Arms Hotel, Shannon, Wyrd Sisters is a fun-filled drama for all the family featuring demons and ghosts, ghastly forests and storms. The play is set in the Kingdom of Lancre, but something is rotten in the state. The evil Duke Felmet has murdered the previous king and now newly crowned, he will stop at nothing until the whole kingdom is under his iron fist. The only one who could take the throne away from his grip, however, is the missing …
