Parteen woman’s cosy cottage is crowned Home of the Year 2021

A PARTEEN native took the top prize on RTÉ’s Home of the Year 2021 grand finale on Tuesday night last. Jen Sheahan, who now lives in Dublin, won the prestigious award after bowling the judging panel over with her late 1800s artisan cottage in Dublin. Judges Hugh Wallace, Suzie Mc Adam and Amanda Bone chose Jen’s home from among 21 homes across the country. Jen had her eye on a cottage for some time and was delighted when one came on the market in 2019. The property needed a lot of work as it was damp, had no central heating and the toilet was outside. Jen did a complete renovation, knocked all internal walls, dug up the floor and lowered it plus added on an extra floor to make it a two-storey house. Judges were highly impressed by work which includes clever storage solutions throughout and quirky features including a disco ball light in her brightly coloured downstairs toilet. “I …

Clare home to feature on RTÉ’s Home of the Year this week

CLARE interior designer Trish O’Brien will be opening up her home to the nation this Tuesday as RTÉ’s popular Home of the Year returns to our screens. Trish will be showcasing her re-designed early 1900s farmhouse, which she has transformed to create a modern family home for her family. She designed a modern extension that linked to the original farmhouse with Limerick-based architect Shane O’Neill of SONARC. They gutted the farmhouse back to its original state so they could keep the traditional exterior. The extension is very modern with open plan spaces downstairs and has a glass link to the original house. The home has four bedrooms and was a big passion project for Trish. The interior style is bright, modern with a mix of textures. Her home will be one of three featured in Home of the Year on Tuesday, February 16 on RTÉ One at 8.30pm.
